Came for Worm, who is just fucking delightful. Expected sludge, and got it, but didn't expect the mid-paced late 90s black metal vibe! What a treat! This is also my first exposure to Dream Unending, which is basically doomgaze Pink Floyd.
What a dark trip Bekor Qilish's sophomore effort turned out to be! It's comparable to their first effort and possibly even better. Love the renewed presence and focus (but not over-reliance) on synths. Instead of a solo project, the main songwriter/vocalist/synth player has hired a full band to pull this Promethean, stop-and-start, Virus-infused, blackened thrash prog out of the aether and squarely into our own rotted febrile imaginations. Huzzah!
The track Under The Stars is a major highlight of LoFi Girl's "beats to sleep/chill to", which is the best morning music mix of all time. The guitar melody is like spun gold.
Schizotypal beauty encased in late 1990s funk metal. The sheer relentless intensity of the arrangements is one of a kind. Love the operatic female vocals, the ceaseless chanting, the wall-of-constant-funk rhythm section. A cross-dimensional tour de force!
So, wait a minute. It's a concept EP. It's got wailing power metal style soloing. It's got monster DM riffs. It's got synths, doom sections, and solemn chanting. And it's a debut. Hahahahaha!
Liminal Bridges has a great chance of making Song Of The Year. It's incredibly catchy and has a fun structure. Looking forward to more releases from these guys!
Gloriously melancholic. There are no tones like Wydraddear's tones. He evokes some unnameable ancient mood - dark, forested, nostalgic - with every song.
What a thick slab this one turned out to be! Very synth- and vocals-forward. This guy's voice just drips with agony and suffering, and the variety of tone choices is really breathtaking. One of a kind performance. Hard to believe it's the work of a single person.
