UPDATE: This has been my favourite album of 2024 so far. Just so freaking stellar front to back. God tier music.

A really wonderful record that I came upon while searching for music made in tracker DAWs. Really charming lyrics and instrumentals that really feel straight out of a tracker. Just the right level of cuts/chops that gives it a very dancy feel but has an indie flow all the while. Really really love this record. Been listening to it for weeks. Very very hard to pick a favorite track.

    Sleeper's Store Sleeper's Store
This record deserves to be at the forefront of everyone's listening to-do list. Fun, interesting, and sonically unique.

Every tune on here front to back is a straight up groove; but I'm especially smitten with the whimsy of "Sleeper's Store".

This is a ridiculously smart and engaging re-imagining of a soundtrack that is so incredibly near and dear to my heart.

Such a great record. Amazing amazing work.

Local Visions continues to put out astounding work from astounding artists. Every record I listen to from this label has something fresh to offer.

Really love the semi-classic-rock vibes on display here. Very retro sounds that blend in between western and eastern 80s sounds a bunch.
  5. Gaia/RAE
    by Dusqk
    Under_Lust Under_Lust
This record is a logical extension and refinement of the sounds that Dusqk featured in their "HEAVEN/EXE" record. Lots of the same sounds and samples that were used there show up here as well. This one feels like it leans a little more into the "intelligent" drum and bass zone than its predecessor, and this feels like a smart place to bring the sound.

Dusqk has a signature style for this subgenre of drum and bass that feels uniquely theirs.
  6. Time & Space
    by Groovin' in G
Really appreciate this track and how open Groovin' is about it's development on their youtube channel. The texture and flow of this one is smooth, with a great selection of sounds and samples that layer and paint the deep aquatic soundscape.

This is a cozy collection of laid-back yet inspiring melodies that are perfect for an afternoon of studying or working. This is a beautiful assortment of tracks and sounds from Lindsay.

Outtake!? This is an incredible track! I'm very happy to support this one. Love, love, love your work, Lindsay!

I have been absolutely in love with this one for the past few days—it has just some really great production and composition. The extraordinary use of samples and the consistent sound sets from start to finish make this feel like a complete and well-executed work.

Thanks, Nottanishi, for putting in a police siren alarm at the start of every track, so I know it's a new track, too.

    nottanishi forever!!

Youtube decided to feed me the playlist video for this on a whim; and I was simply blown away. Dusqk has managed to perfectly capture the exact feeling they set out to do, without getting lost in a sea of derivatives that exist in this particular space at the moment. A wonderful record and it’s evident here that Dusqk put immense amounts of love and care into the selection of sounds and samples. A diamond in the rough. Very happy this found me.

It’s records like this that really showcase the highlights of Emma’s production and mastering abilities. It also is a treat to hear influences and hints shining from their other aliases in some of these pieces. I really appreciate the way that the orchestral and choir pieces intermix with the traditional electronic portions. Hearing that noisy upright piano sound in track 10 was such a smart choice as well, and in my opinion a big highlight of my first listen. Absolutely a “wow!” from me!
  13. Faked it this much
    by defsharp
My favorite artist of 2022 returns! What a comeback track - this feels like such a smart and thoughtful extension of their sound from "infrequent flyers program". I love the dreamyness throughout that is maintained incredibly well with the deep bass hits. The production on this one is definitely up to defsharps high standards.

Somehow an even better compilation than the last one. An audio visual journey and a great set for anyone new, or veteran to the Y2K scene. Thanks to Nuphory for running this project!!
  15. Starry Eyed Dreamer
    by AIKA
A really amazing build up track - the vocaloid lyrical mastering here is absolutely incredible; and the production quality is there to match. This song knows how to capture your attention and build it to it's absolute limit - releasing the tension at the height into a super fun, tight, and bassy future funk/happy hardcore peak.

A home run of an EP; this is what hooked me on Defsharp and it did it without breaking a sweat. A great snippet of what is perfected in Infrequent Flyer's Program.

    Arm's Length Arm's Length
An absolutely astounding mix of punk and math rock that just has you listening from front to back each and every time. "Arm's Length" in particular is a track that has hooked me quite unlike anything probably ever has. I've been listening to that track on repeat in between full album spins for about a week now. A very solid contender for AOTY 2022 for me.

Defsharp showed up in my spotify discover playlist quite a number of months ago. Ever since then; I've been absolutely hooked. They have such a unique flavour of deep, heavy beats & guitar riffs that pair like bread & butter to their vocals. They have easily cemented themselves as one of my favourite artists of the year, and I have no doubt at least one track from this record will end up on my favourites of the year compilation at the end of 2022.
  19. Nectarine
    by Lindsay Lowend
East West Highway East West Highway
You can really feel Lindsay's love for the tracker and chiptune scene in this record. Amazingly well produced and filled to the brim with passion and influence. I especially love the look to the sky sample in the title track "Nectarine". Listened to this for free for far too long. Very happy to support this one.
  20. ivies (tides demo)
    by defsharp
Nothing short of a travesty that this song was never completed in full and featured on tides. This demo is just so absolutely captivating. Had to purchase this.
