Well, when this surprise release from this Aussie one-person dissonant death metal project dropped, I suddenly knew what my remaining money was for. Simply astounding! Time to go back and get re-acquainted with the other two albums now...
This epic Icelandic black metal band delivers two STUNNING long-form tracks that are indebted to the history of their native island. Absolutely stunning release!
Regardless of if I believe in the lyrics or not (I don't, but if you happen to, that's cool!), this is the catchiest album of 2023. I cannot count how many times these songs have gotten stuck in my head throughout the second half of the year. A future Christian rock classic for sure!
A highly inventive and progressive black metal album about Emperor Rudolph II that follows in the footsteps of in-between-first-and-second-wave masters such as Master's Hammer and Mortuary Drape as well as later modern torch bearers like Negative Plane and Predatory Light. One of the best black metal albums of the year.
This hasn't fully grown on me yet, but it does contain the ritualistic feel carried over from their 2019 debut. Hopefully the layers will reveal themselves to me in due time...
If you wanted to listen to [REDACTED HORRIFICALLY CONTROVERSIAL VIRGINIAN BAND] without those atrocious lyrics (and why would you?), you've come to the right place. Hopefully a full length is in the pipes.
The most underrated band in all of US black metal. Wanted to buy all three albums, but the stupid taxes wouldn't let me! Anyways, if you love this weird amazing niche of Mercyful Fate-inspired-but-with-harsh-vocals black metal, check all three of their albums out.

Such an epic album with shades of Manilla Road, Jethro Tull, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep and other nerdy-as-hell, cool bands from the 70's and 80's! Even the cover art oozes pulp sword and sorcery fantasy. Check this thing out!
This hasn't fully grown on me yet, but it does contain a ritualistic feel similar to their anti-fash compatriots in Bull of Apis Bull of Bronze. Hopefully the layers will reveal themselves to me in due time...
David Tibet's still got it. A gem sadly unnoticed by the general public because of it being on no streaming services. Such a shame; more people should hear this!
Great German black metal album! German, I feel, is a great language for black metal, especially the over-enunciated kind that appears on this album. Killer riffs and melodies, too. PEOPLE: GET ON THIS!
