    by Petrychor
Of Grandest Majesties Of Grandest Majesties
Petrychor creates colossal walls of sound mixed with almost ethereal passages and compelling folk sections, improved with Tad Piecka's impressive skill with finger-picking. The contrast between the raw, slightly muted guitars in the heavy sections and the gorgeous folk interludes really fascinates me. I hope Tad keeps creating awesome folk-tinged black metal because it's some of the best out there.

*Dat piano intro track.* So gorgeous, and it contrasts so nicely with the desperate, agonizing black metal that follows on the rest of the album.

To Wander and Beyond To Wander and Beyond
Sweet atmospheric black metal, out of Indonesia of all places. Catchy riffs, folky passages, still stays true to the black metal core... What's not to love? But no seriously these guys are awesome.
  9. Woods of Somnolence
    by Fatal Nostalgia
    Cleansing Waters Cleansing Waters
Not quite metal, but somewhat metal-esque, with a lot of superb melodies.

Amazing "blackgaze"-type material... Intricate melodies woven with heavy guitar riffs -- just my thing. I love the layering. All instrumental but startlingly beautiful.

Bodies Under the Falls Bodies Under the Falls
I love bands that branch out and mix genres. Yet I have to admit that I never would have thought that Black Metal and Bluegrass could work... Panopticon proves otherwise. An incredible album on a very interesting theme.
  13. U.M.A.
    by Progenie Terrestre Pura
Progenie Terrestre Pura Progenie Terrestre Pura
Atmospheric Black Metal is one of my favorite genres, but Progenie Terrestre Pura takes it to the next level with incredible sci-fi-esque soundscapes mixed amongst the brutal riffs. There are just enough electronic and ambient influences to make U.M.A. interesting without going over the top -- it's still a black metal record at the core.
  14. From Her and Here
    by Lastletters.
    Crushing Petals Crushing Petals
Lastletters. creates raw, emotive melodic hardcore at its finest, IMO. The sheer amount of emotion on this record is amazing... And honestly it's almost like the lyrics are describing my life. So powerful, so brutal, so beautiful.
