An instant classic. One of the very best albums in a stellar discography. It's great to hear Nat with a band again, especially Adam Fairhall, who fits his music so well. I won't pick a favorite track, because they're all great, but I can listen to Lokumbe on a loop for an hour. Now how about another live album?

  9. JAM SESSION ART PEPPER, ZOOT SIMS
    by Art Pepper
Thanks to Laurie Pepper for a great Christmas present! Not surprisingly, the highlight is Art's ballad feature, (Somewhere) Over The Rainbow, but everybody plays well throughout. Zoot really shines on the surprisingly uptempo Girl From Ipanema. He should have been recorded live more often. He always brought a little extra when spurred on by another top saxophonist, and who better to spur him on than Art Pepper? Great recording quality too.

  13. Unreleased Art Pepper Vol. 3—Croydon

This may be my favorite live Art Pepper album ever. The whole band is on fire and the songlist is varied and great. Patricia is incredible and heartbreaking, Dedicated is a real find, and Make A List is so, so funky. Essential.
  14. Unreleased Art Pepper Vol. 10—Toronto
    by Art Pepper
This is the first show of Art Pepper's first tour ever and he sounds like he's having a ball, playing with warm, fleet-fingered exuberance, which is infectious on the latin grooves and cookers. The ballads will break your frickin' heart though. This version of The Summer Knows is simply monumental. It's worth the price of admission by itself. I love how the rhythm section matches Art's intensity. Bernie Senensky is stellar and has a great rapport with Art.
