Uncanny. I think this prodigy from Brooklyn knows my own dear departed better than I do. No hyperbole, this must be what they mean when they say 'genius'.
Of course, what matters most is the musicality. And that's where this album shines. Deft handling of timbre, rhythm, and phrasing certainly, but also subtle variations in color and dynamics that I haven't before appreciated so much in the banjo.
I am grateful to WFMU's email "Blast of Hot Air" for the tip.
