I had never heard of The Album Leaf before hearing the title track on the latest Relapse Sampler. And now I'm here. As always, I'm late to the game, but I'm glad to have randomly discovered this amazing album.

I agree with Max." A Looming Resonance" proves that black metal can be beautiful and delicate but powerful and dynamic at the same time.

James Mattock is such a huge inspiration to me. I'm so glad to discover that he's still making music after the disbanding of Sharks and I can't wait to hear more.
  26. Whirr 'Sway'
    by Whirr
    00:00/00:00
    Dry Dry
As much as I miss the pop sound they had before, the shiny new Whirr captivates a darker, fuzzier vibe that rings true to the "My Bloody Valentine-esque" sound that shoegaze fans were already used to. Favorite track is 'Lines' because that song is overflowing with droning guitar fuzz that gives the song an atmospheric feeling that makes me wish it would never end. Plus it was badass seeing them play it live.

    World World
If Tame Impala and My Bloody Valentine hooked up and had an illegitimate kid, that kid would be Skeleton Coast. The aspects of shoegaze, psychedelia, and indie rock on this album make me feel like I'm endlessly floating under water in the middle of the ocean and the only sound that I can make out as I draw my final breath is Skeleton Coast.

The atmospheric shoegaze feel they had on Sunbather was great, but with From The Kettle, the band delves deeper into their black metal influence and produces something more brutal than they ever have before. I really dig this sound more than anything they've done in the past. If this is any kind of sign for what's to come on their next album, then it will more than likely be their best record yet.
