Former Salome vocalist Katherine Katz fits into Scott Hull's long-running grind outfit so perfectly it's eerie. This is AN's first foray into doom and they knock the goddamn door off its hinges! Excellent stuff.
Not as immediately compelling as their incredible comeback album, 2013's Life Sentence, but the latter half of Atom by Atom is as good as rediscovered NWOBHM gets. The guitar work is especially praiseworthy.
Simply put: GREAT heavy metal. Imagine classic era Sepultura, with a modern production and a dash of Black Metal for good measure. Groovy, catchy and brutal all at once. Infernal War is a band worthy of more attention.
I enjoyed this album. I've heard some criticism that fans don't like the vocals. I do. Karyn Crisis' choice to restrict her performance to a more conservative (for her) approach here allows the music to shine through. And that music is beautiful.
