I have passionately loved Half-handed Cloud's 'Flying Scroll Flight Control' for years, but I've held off from buying any of their records for fear they'd be disappointing in comparison. On the contrary, 'Halos & Lassos' shares all the merits of FSFC. Really engaging, jaunty, sincere songs, Biblically inspired. It has a patchwork 'Smile Sessions' sound, like we're inside the recording, which instruments arriving SUDDENLY. I'm immensely satisfied to have bought this album.
  6. RD Orchestra 2009 - "The Adventure"
    by Ryan Dorin
    00:00/00:00
    Adventure Begins Adventure Begins
Ryan Dorin's story-telling music gives me great joy and satisfaction. I've snapped up most of his Ratboy Genius works (and can't wait for others to be purchasable as albums, not just tracks). His 2009 RD Orchestra adventure is full of engaging, cheerful loops, with the same production and polish that he's brought to all recent works. I love 'Adventure Begins' for its kinship with Sea Shanty. I like the way the album moves from cheerful overture to darker, more pensive tracks like Underground.
  7. Keep The Ball Rolling
    by Dead Slow Hoot
    00:00/00:00
The whole of the 'I Suppose They Were Better off As Dead' EP is excellent, but this track is my personal favourite, so I've been glad to pick up the mildly-longer single version. The bass and drums are so insistent that the rolling ball of the middle section sounds alarmingly ominous. It's hard to listen to this without foreseeing a disastrous future.

Break Mine Again Break Mine Again
An oldie but a goodie. Some of Il Protagonisto's best work is on display here. 'The Snowman' and 'Ghost Town' are very Cohen-tinted, and all the better for it. 'Break Mine Again' is a marvellous song, and I originally I assumed it was a cover of a standard. The occasional recorder parts, and Jengin Jordan's backing vocals, give this a very pleasing sound. A sincere record, good art.

  14. Starship Genius Ep. 4 7/8 Don't Be Late
    by Ratboy Genius
    00:00/00:00
I could listen to this track a thousand times. I got into Ratboy Genius to watch the Minecraft story, but The Flood and the Starship Genius story are Ryan Dorin's masterworks, and this track is my favourite synthesis of his performance, vocal arrangements and animation.
