How do you intertwine the feelings of utter hopelessness, somber beauty, and belligerent resistance? I can't say for sure, but flyingdeadman found a recipe that makes me feel all those wonderful complex feelings like they were injected into a dream and I awoke in a cold sweat, panicked but comforted at the same time. And, like all good things, when the going gets heavy on this album, it's a very pleasant and thick heavy.

Crabcore City Central. Dragon, FLY! Crabcore City Central. Dragon, FLY!
Relentless and heavy, it wanes between lulling you into a false sense of security just before unleashing tight supersonic riffs that swirl over thunderous distortion and pleasantly creative timings. Also, the drums are neato.

If you listen long enough, this album gets in your very blood and never leaves you. One of the most visceral albums that I've ever listened to, it takes you from the lowest low to the highest high at a journeyman's pace. The addition of sparse vocals on a couple of tracks is a welcome addition, as it serves the purpose of being a tether to reel the listener back in to a tangible reality for a short respite before continuing on into the second half of the album.

The album feels adventurous, letting the listener's mind wander for a while before reeling it back in with a tight, powerful hook. Soft and ambient without being too airy, powerful when it needs to be without being overwhelming. A very nice and thoughtfully crafted album.

The Hum and the Shiver The Hum and the Shiver
An intoxicating mixture of tribal, folk, country, and celtic, all woven together in perfect harmony with a raw energy. Add to that two of the most beautiful voices you'll ever hear as lead singers and it's no wonder I've been obsessed with this band. This band also has an amazing live show and a really cool country-celtic-steampunk look.

Thick and smokey. Feels like riding a big fat space Cadillac through the cosmos to someplace groovy.
