Dessa's usual genius wit is biting and fierce in Fire Drills, then calmed and melancholy in Velodrome. Deft mixing and production allows her to switch between the two, and more importantly, allows the album to be truly heartfelt and honest. Even the fun track Shrimp allows a lighter humour to the album. Little touches, tight production, and clever, snarky-not-smug lyricism makes this Dessa's best work yet.
