Let's get the record straight on this album, because hype is a dangerous thing. Is this literally the greatest Post-Rock album of the past decade? I would argue no. Is this a fantastic, textured album? Yes. Are the compositions thrilling in their grandiosity and their composition? Yes.
Possibly Sufjan's greatest work. Eclectic as all get out: shifts from thrilling, to contemplative, to scary, to absolutely beautiful swiftly and tactfully.
Have a Nice Life is a brilliant, brilliant group. Deathconsciousness is brimming with emotion and likely one of the best albums ever, and this album is a worthy successor.
Seregeti gives a compelling flow and Sufjan makes my heart break. "I want to be your friend" too Sufjan, you brilliant bastard. All in all a great album, and certainly set to be one of the best of 2014.
A sincere, loving album. Not the finest singing, but is it supposed to be? The album has all the sentiments of sitting around a campfire and simply living in a moment. Beautiful album.
I can't really pick a favorite song just as I can't pick a favorite point in the game itself. The sense of wonderment from the beginning, sliding down the sands, climbing the mountain...they're all too perfect.
