  1. Forgotten Sanctuary
    by Silva
Classic melodic death metal with a blackened edge, akin to Unanimated and A Mind Confused. Devoid of the limitations of the Gothenburg school, Silva craft expansive journeys of interweaving tremolo melodies backed up by forceful rhythms. It's not uncommon for bands in this subgenre to have a folky touch (ie. Skydancer era Dark Tranquility) but SIlva's has a heartier, earthier vibe and an underlying forcefulness distinguishing from its nordic forefathers. Reminds me of Texas' Vex!

  3. Dreadful Parasomnia
    by Horrifying
Pummelling death metal in the vein of Immolation's Dawn of Possession, augmented with furiuos single-foot blasting and that morbidly melodic touch that is the Chilean scene's signature. No cheap cavebrOSDM mosh grooves and HM2 bullshit here; thrashing savagery is their strength and it hearkens to a distinctly American take on this style refreshing in today's oversaturated, trendy climate.

  5. Mother's Guilty Pleasure Part One
    by Noor
  6. Outbound Flight
    by Justicar
Concussive power metal with a hefty dose of Paradox (Germany) style thrashing muscle to it, featuring pre-Disney Star Wars expanded lore and deliciously prominent bass guitar. Vocals are unusually kinda hollow and wizard like which adds a storytelling-esque vibe to the singing, perfect for accompanying the technical if still highly ripping guitar attack.

    Promising!
  7. Astral Funeral
    by Ancient Seance
Off-kilter USPM/speed metal with an almost first wave black metal touch to both the tonality and riffing choices. Demon Bitch comes to mind but this dwells in realms more infernal in character, reminiscent of something like a condensed and classic metal interpretation of recent Predatory Light. Promising band we desperately need a debut album by already.
  8. At the Dawn
    by SOLAR
Russian symphonic power metal with dense, actively involved guitar work and surprisingly creative drumming. The keyboards you expect are there but they coordinate very tightly with the former instrument, resulting in a sound with the expected grandeur of this subgenre yet grounded far more firmly in the fundamentals of solid riffcraft.

Empress and Thy Majestie come to mind in how they meld their miniature symphonise with a progressive finesse and intricacy though this is chunkier.
  9. 2022 demo
    by Malefic
Crunchy, thrash-infused melodic death metal in the older non-SOTS vein, having a bit of a techy and blackened touch. Aenigmatum, Vile Rites, and Lividus are its closest modern day relatives. Particularly impressive for how the drummer also handles the vocals - highly capable without being too showy.
  10. An Enigmatic Creation
    by Aesthetic
Vivid and colourful technical melodic death metal in the vein of Dark Tranquillity up to the sophomore. Harmonies flourish with explosive energy, having a kinda vaguely folksy tinge that reminds me of Obsequiae (particularly the debut) but executed with the elaborate Anata-esque scope of sophomore Deviant Process. Production is a bit on the raw side but it adds to the manic delivery and atmosphere.

  12. ...And the Trip Begins EP
    by Nemesis Aeterna
  13. Horrified Reflection
    by Body Wall Defect
With drum virtuoso Robin Stone, BWD take a turn to a heavier, brutal direction reminiscent of Iniquity's Five Across The Eyes. The Aenigmatum-esque melodic touch isn't absence but it lives in the shadow of a precision-jackhammering sound in direct contrast to their debut EP.
  14. Underdark
    by Rraath
  15. Enforcers of Alchemical Evils
    by Tartarus Horde
Savave grinding black death with notable usage of melody, giving a sense of the triumphant and fantastical emerging out of primitive grime. Sacramentary Abolishment comes to mind as does Houde-era Kataklysm, Axis of Advance as well surprisingly but with more tempo variety.
  16. The Caliginous Serenade
    by ACERUS
  17. Grief Outlet
    by Loam
Winding polyphony-heavy progressive death/black evocative of At The Gates' With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness but with a far more ambiguous sense of tonality and vast structures.
