The disco banger My Main Man Pete (Rock) is a strong contender for top track here, but Nap Time Visions maximizes the funk. They are both great examples of Mono's edit mastery. The whole tape is dope.
Damn, that analogue synth sample with that reverb just lifts this up a level. Maybe it’s the way it captures 70s futurism. A feeling of nostalgia for how we used to wish things were going to be. So good.
Mono presents extremely dope edits of stuff he's unearthed in his digging. It would be fairer if he actually called them edits and credited the amazing original artists. I guess he's avoiding a world of legal trouble. Anyway, I'm along for the ride on the principle that this guy is doing amazing curation work. His ear is infallible.
The jazz loop is a powerful one. A bit like the opening chords of Maiden Voyage, but heavier. This one would need some really deep, meaning of life lyrics to do it justice.
A slow 79bpm. Lots of space, two slightly threatening notes played on an unidentifiable instrument, a pulsing alien alarm sound, a fat beat and punchy bass. Simple but effective.
Brenx produces top, top quality Golden-era beats with a sinister edge. Clear is the joint here for me because it has so much space and the drum mixing is so on point. Three Great Men is a banger too.
