  1. Motorway (Remastered 2021)
    by Fearofdark
    Motorway Motorway
This is a comment on the original mastering, but the dip in quality is (IMO) minimal and I feel the same way regardless:

I can barely come up with the words to express myself, but here's what I got:

    A) I only consider one track on this album to NOT be a masterpiece (Katamari), and

    B) The title track is literally my favorite song of all time, and has been since the first time I heard it 8 years ago.

Thank you, Stephen, for the album that legitimately got me into music.

    Thank you.

Sometimes music resonates with you in a way that nothing else can. Sometimes, music resonates with you in a way that no other music can.

    This is that music.

    Ember is that resonation.

  4. Woodcutting
    by Miragey & Jummbus
    Woodcutting Woodcutting
This album is beautiful. From the big boy jams of Treehopper and Yowiemancer, to the darker tones of Temporal Twilight and Nightshade Gardens, to even the chill tunes of Binary Star Beach and Spring Breeze, every track here is a wonder to listen to, the continuity therein is masterfully done, and Woodcutting itself is just fucking phenomenal.

ALSO IT WAS MADE IN TWO WEEKS WHAT
  5. Digital Spool
    by Jazz Emu
    Digital Spool Digital Spool
It's difficult for me to analyze this album as anything other than the climax of Jazz's personal character arc. So I won't.

Digital Spool is an album about saying 'fuck it' and doing what you want because that's what you want to do. It's funny, it's heartfelt, and goddammit I cry every single time to about 5 of these tracks.

I, for one, love the taste of good Digital Spool. Thank you, Emu.

p.s. 'For the roof of my mouth' is your single best line.
  6. Ephemerality
    by Helblinde
Helblinde - The Solace of Oblivion Helblinde - The Solace of Oblivion
While this album doesn't follow a set theme, each track tells its own story with the brilliant tone and theming Helblinde is practically known for. Songs like When Time Sleeps, The Story of Mob, Call of the Void, and ESPECIALLY The Solace of Oblivion are so thematically beautiful in of themselves, and the rest of the tracks aren't far behind in quality.

The Solace of Oblivion is fucking masterful, to reiterate. Easily the best song in this genre, and one of the greatest songs of all time.
  7. Exit Plan
    by Fearofdark
Don't Leave Me Out Here In The Dark Don't Leave Me Out Here In The Dark
God, it took me forever to come around to this album. For upwards of 20 full listens, I steadfastly believed Exit Plan wasn't even deserving of sitting in the audience of the theatre that was showcasing Motorway on the big screen.

In reality, it's a secondary character.

No, it's not as good, but it doesn't try to be. For what it is, and what it's worth, Exit Plan is one thing:

    Absolutely wonderful.

You know something's of quality when you don't stop laughing for longer than two minutes over the entire runtime.

    Apocalypse Honey Apocalypse Honey
Nothing in this world makes me want to jiggle quite like this EP.

Apocalypse Honey is on the goddamn Apocalypse MONEY!
  10. SYZYGY 01
    by opiuo
    Dalmatians Dalmatians
Nearly three years later, and Dalmatians still has the best chorus I've ever heard in any song ever.

To end a collection of what might be the most satisfying music in existence with that is just... a flex, if nothing else.
  11. Ground Zero
    by Zef
    Livewire Livewire
Zef's Ground Zero perfectly encapsulates what I like to call 'insanitycore'. Insanitycore uses the presence of off-the-wall crazy and insane rhythms, tones, and melodies to essentially remove all chances of any part of the song being boring. High-octane, unending, full-force insanity. Masterfully composed, and brilliantly executed.
  12. Taiga
    by Kubbi
    Hunter Hunter
Taiga is the type of album that you put on when you either A. want to sleep or B. want to feel like you could sleep at any moment.

Calm yet energizing songs that feel natural in instrumentation and sound and are just easy to listen to.
  13. INTERNET PROTOCOL
    by MASTER BOOT RECORD
    FTP FTP
Every single track here is a TREAT to listen to. The low, growly, and crushy sound along with the headbang-inducing composition molds into pieces that are just so satisfying to experience. MBR creates some incredibly unique chiptune, and I'm all for it.

Also SMTP's just got a fantastical finish.
  14. Bloom
    by Carpool Tunnel
    Empty Faces Empty Faces
The vocals here have what can only be described as an intoxicating mediocrity, which comes off as purposeful in every way.

The performance is emotional, the composition is smooth as butter, and it all comes together in a way that feels personal and unique, despite the tone and style being nothing to write home about.
  15. From Rotting Fantasylands
    by Nero's Day At Disneyland
Swarming Idiot Effigy Swarming Idiot Effigy
In what can only be called a concoction of sounds and styles and melodies, NDaD creates some truly scary music and keeps you engaged all the same.

Now THAT'S what I SOMETIMES call MUSIC!

(Also, these song titles are like the good versions of death metal song and band names.)

Some songs drag on, but wholly shit is this a perfect sequel to SYZYGY 01! I'm so looking forward to 03, if you're planning to make it!

Also I see you with the lick, funny guy eh?
Favorite track: Send it feat. The Lick.
  18. SUPER CHIPFUNK

One of the jammiest albums I've ever listened to. Protodome makes the most intense funk since FOD, and I can never get enough. Kudos grande.

by I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME
Do It All The Time Do It All The Time
This albums jams so hard it should be illegal. The only thing I could criticize is how unclear the lyrics are. The only song that began to make sense before I looked up the lyrics was Do It All The Time.

    Still, wonderful groovy jams throughout.
