  1. Noble Greenness
    by Riley Lee
My partner gave me the beautiful 3-CD set of Riley Lee performing the music of Hildegard von Bingen, which includes this album. The shakuhachi is the perfect instrument for Hildegard's music. It's hard to find words to properly describe the experience of listening to these pieces... gentle, transcendent, full of feeling. It is music that touches and heals the heart.

This album is a delight! A wonderful selection of pieces, all performed beautifully. When the world seems harsh and overwhelming, music like this is food for the heart.

    The Getaway The Getaway
BOO just keep getting better. This release has their trademark, super catchy synth pop, but also some of the darker themes and textures featured on their previous album, Snare. Some tracks, such as We Are Ghosts and 今 (Ima), are simply beautiful. Echoes of Gary Numan and The Cure (to my old ears) highlight BOO's knack of drawing on the past to shape something new and interesting. Check out the brilliant video for Lady Megawatt!
  9. The Getaway [Single]
    by Battery Operated Orchestra
Love this - a perfect pop song. Check out the beautiful video on youtube as well.

Under The River Under The River
Another super album from BOO. As with their earlier work, it features beautifully crafted textures and beats, but the mood is often darker and more sparse than before. That said, who could resist the fun of Charismatic Megafauna? Brigitte's vocals are particularly beautiful on this album and the mix of voice within synth space always interesting. The instrumental Borders (Fall) is a lovely closing piece.

For The 10 For The 10
I bought this album a few months ago and it's been on high rotation at my place ever since. The whole family loves it. Every track is brilliant and there's a broad palette from impossibly catchy (Fluoro sushi) to brooding (Totem) to beautifully dreamy (For the 10). Tight inventive arrangements and perfect vocals - what more could you want? Plus the CD packaging is a work of art.
  13. Two - Out
by Mike Nock and Roger Manins
There's a real chemistry between Roger and Mike on this album, and their playing is just beautiful. The more times you listen, the more you'll love it.

CD2 A Tree Has Its Heart In Its Roots CD2 A Tree Has Its Heart In Its Roots
I love this album. The improvised tracks on the first CD are magical, exploring a lot of territory without ever leaving the listener behind. The second CD is a feast of standards and originals. The playing by all three musicians is incredible. They can do anything, but there's never a second of empty virtuosity. If you don't own a copy of this album - buy it now!

I was lucky enough to see the filmed version of this album via the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall. It was a beautiful and uplifting concert and the CD captures this spirit. I particularly love Sarabande by Paul Cutlan and the Suite in A major by Marais. The closing piece, where Jenny and Tommie are joined by Susie Bishop's voice and violin, is beautiful beyond words.

Frid på Jord (Peace on Earth) - Sofia Karlsson (arr. by Matt McMahon) Frid på Jord (Peace on Earth) - Sofia Karlsson (arr. by Matt McMahon)
Sweetly sad, beautifully atmospheric music, often with a great feeling of space and light. The arrangements are wonderful and the playing understated but always perfect. Susie Bishop's singing grabs at your heart. The CD booklet is beautiful and the notes really add to the appreciation of each piece.
