I have been a fan of Sarah's since Myriad came out and, holy crap, this HAS to be her best work. Sure, it's not as heavy, but there is so much technical, beautiful guitar work going on here.

My only regret is that it took me a few months to hear it.

This band NEEDS to be heard. Some of the most beautiful and unique interpretations of my old favorite RPG tunes right here. Just a couple guys getting all loungey and folk like for your entertainment. Sheer nostalgic instrumental glory.

  16. Every Piece Matters
    by Plini
    track 00:00/00:00
There is almost nothing to say anymore. Plini is a modern day Steve Vai. He's a jazzy, djenty, fret board tapping guitar wiz. His songs take you on a quick, emotional journey you just want to take again and again.

    Spirit Mates Spirit Mates
You know, I've been a fan since In Touch, but it wasn't until this album that I see the REAL potential of Their Dogs Were Astronauts. There is just so much going on here, compared to most of their previous efforts. We may have a serious progressive metal band on our hands now; not just the usual djent stuff on display here.

    Floating Thread Floating Thread
I cannot correctly form into words how happy this album makes me. Here you have track after track of pure musical magic. Sean Ashe knows how to make a song sound like a beautiful, inspiring story you want to read over and over again. A guitar wiz to boot; this guy knows his way around the fretboard. All I ask of you, Sean, is that you keep making music for many years to come.

    Charybdis Charybdis
Now this is some trippy, progressive, instrumental, fret board tapping beauty here. I don't even know what to say. Reminiscent of The Fine Constant's most recent release, but wrought with Yvette's unique knack for song writing. I truly believe she has the potential to go down in history as one of the first guitar goddesses. She has a clear passion for music and the knowledge and capability to pull it off. Hope to hear more for years to come.

    Tread Lightly Tread Lightly
This is progressive metal. This is just guys having fun, playing music. This is what music should always be about. It's heavy, it rocks, it's some what technical, but it never lets you tear your focus away. I loved their first EP, but I think this may just top it.

Upon additional listening, that version of Future Babez blows the original out of the water. Hot damn, it is groovy.

    Paper Hammers Paper Hammers
I'll admit, I was a bit reluctant to check out Boundless, after all the line up changes but, Martin Andres, as a one man band, blew my expectations out of the water. There is so much to absorb here, as Andres' song writing takes center stage, in a brilliant mix of old school leads and modern metal syncopated grooviness. The track, Paper Hammers, is straight up beautiful, and transcends metal entirely; some of the most brilliant, classical guitar and piano work I've heard in a while. Should be on any prog metal head's list of must hear albums of 2015.
  24. The Shape of Colour
    by Intervals
    featured track 00:00/00:00
    I'm Awake I'm Awake
The Shape of Colour may be referred to by many as "djazz" but, whatever you prefer to call it, it is a technical, fun and mesmerizing piece of work. Aaron Marshall, along with acts such as Plini, CHON, Polyphia, and Glass Skies, have breathed new life into both metal AND jazz by creating a more relaxed, comprehensive, groovy package that, dare I say, sends a more positive message to all aspiring guitarists, and musicians period.

Holy crap, Oscar, I have seen a few of your songs here and there, but this EP just blew me away. Incredible debut, man. I would put you right up there with Plini in an instant. I wish you all the success you get, my friend!

    Suspended Suspended
This is the epitome of progressive metal. Aside from genre bending, these guys are actually all classically trained, and it shows. Everything flows and blends seamlessly together, without sounding cut and paste or predictable at all. There is such complex variety and every song is unique, that it is really hard to classify a specific subgenre, other than simply 'progressive metal'. It really feels like an eclectic musical experience that you need to set aside an hour to absorb completely. Looking forward to being a long time fan. Stick to it, guys, you have something special here.

Stardust (feat. Miyoki) Stardust (feat. Miyoki)
Probably David's best release to date. It's not metal, it's not djent, it is music as an art form at it's purest. This album is all over the place, in the best way possible, without sounding "random" or pretentious or pandering. This guy LOVES music and loves playing it with others who share the same passion. I would recommend this album to ANYONE.

    Roots Roots
Somebody give these guys a fucking medal. This album is sheer brilliance. I am not a fan of the deathcore screams, but I appreciate all subgenres metal, and my philosophy is: if it fits the music, that's all that matters. These guys have the technical ability, and are clearly classically trained. Hell, I would love to hear more acoustic tracks, after listening to the title track. Some guitar metal mastery on display here.

What WARP (the band formerly known as Warp Prism) has accomplished here is nothing short of awesome. Anima is a bit less cluttered and more straightforward than their previous release, which I had to burn several times from so many playthroughs. The simple rhythmic grooves and one of the greatest vocalists in the genre, make Anima a must listen for any modern metal head.
