What a glorious return. Not only does the most awesome band (partially) reunite but they record new awesome stuff, including a quiet song ('...elves')! Can't wait to hear more of the oncoming album!
I’m glad Ally Craig has been able to put out another album from his own little world of old films and hats off to him doing it solo. This is a mix of catchy odd pop and some truly beautiful sounds. I have even named ‘I don’t like John Wayne’ as the most enjoyable track even though I personally love John Wayne!
mclusky may well be one of the greatest rock bands ever to grace this planet/universe. This record is proof of such an inflated opinion. I can't choose a favourite track. They're all too epic. I also can't wait to watch the DVDs when they arrive.
Like a more laid-back Fugazi. Atmospheric funk-punk with cutting lyrics. I love that they're written a song about a very British attitude: 'What to do? What to do? Have a cup of tea'.
As soon as I heard the hypnotic bludgeoning riffs of ‘Shame’ and ‘Muscle Milk’, I wanted this band to do an album. This will keep you head banging for days. Light-hearted but heavy.
To me, these guys sound like an angrier, Australian version of ‘Violent Femmes’. Or they sound like a punk band who have time travelled straight from the late 70s to remind us how much raw fun punk used to be.
I had the privilege of seeing this talented guy a while ago, as he performed solo in Oxford. It was a haunting and moving experience. The recordings here are just as soothing and atmospheric as the show I attended. I really hope Bug Prentice will be able to make a new album so these songs can be heard in studio-mastered glory. ‘Keanu Reeves’ in particular is a chat-show interview turned into epic musical poetry.
