While I don't swear off full-band Mountain Goats (Goths just might be their very best album!), this was such a delight to get in a dark time. The tape grind! The mid-album Casio jam! The arcane references! They're all here.
Importantly, JD's writing did not go back in time and the characters and feelings are just as fleshed out as anything in his recent work. It goes by fast, but you'll be re-listening plenty.
