  1. Biréli Lagrène - Solo Suites

  2. Living In Sound: The Music of Charles Mingus
    by Harry Skoler
My first impression upon hearing Harry Skoler's version of Goodbye Port Pie Hat was that I absolutely had to have this album no matter what the rest of recording had to offer. Well, I was very pleased to find the rest of the album lived up to my first impression and it's now earned a well-deserved place as of one of my all-time favorites.
  3. Bud Powell In The 21st Century
    by Ethan Iverson
I've been a fan of big band jazz since I was about eleven years old. Which, surprisingly even to me, was about fifty-eight years ago. Some big band music can become pedantic or predictable. Not this. It has drive and variation. This is a set of virtuoso performances in a big band setting. Especially Ethan. This album does Bud Powell justice.
  4. The Sound Will Tell You
    by JASON MORAN
"The Sound Will Tell You" - Achingly beautiful. That warm, safe, solitary place you yearn for. To go to and get lost for awhile. The keys and pedals hammered the strings of my heart.
