Tom Green's pieces on this album remind me of rock pools - some clear and still, limpid and light, some busy with scuttling creatures and darting swimmers. One of those rare albums you know you can put on, soak into, and enjoy from start to finish.
These guys channel the spirit of Djelimady Tounkara and the Rail Band in their prime, along with a bunch of other great Mali musicians, adding a layer of jam-band sensibility in their instrumental explorations. They hit the spot, totally. My album of the year (so far at least) for 2014.
