The musical energy is raw. It plunges down towards deep roots, planted in the diaspora, while also trying to get away from itself. As Carolyn Fe puts it, "it's not your typical grandma blues."
A friend sent me a vinyl edition of "Blue Bucket of Gold" as a gift. That was my entry point to this album. The "Sufjan Stevens" soundscape definitely paints the whole story with full sincerity.
"Eastbound" was my entry point to Vancouver-based Manila Grey. Dreamy late night city vibes surely gets my attention, along with the fact that the diasporic awareness is present in their writing.
