  1. Dewayne
by Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter
A sweet first single I presume from Jesse's forthcoming new album... This one feels a bit light and breezy compared to the thick distorted guitars on Marble Son--more of a traditional folk sound but still draped in her hypnotic midnight howls. Looking forward to the new album in full and a tour that comes down the coast from Seattle to the Mojave desert of California for a stint at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace.
  2. Marble Son
by Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter
Birds of Passerine Birds of Passerine
My god... I don't know how it took fate so long to allow me to discover Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter. Her voice soars like a raven above a desert sky channeling ghosts from the ether and the instrumentation is nothing short of epic. Hoping they play a show at Pappy and Harriet's in the high Mojave desert of California!
  3. Oh, My Girl
by Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter
The Dreaming Dead The Dreaming Dead
Every song on this album is utterly captivating and a moody alternative folk rock epic... Every single one. This album should have made Jesse and her band famous way back in the mid 2000s. I would love to see them do a retrospective tour now playing this album in full. It's almost impossible for me to pick just one song as my favorite... If you buy only one album from Jesse this is the one to get...

  5. Sentimental Craving For Beauty
    by VEiiLA
Made Of Air Made Of Air
My god this is a masterpiece... Captivating and very original brooding melodies and vocals that ride on each others peaks beautifully. Take a trip into a world that merges Portishead and Tricky with darkwave undertones in a really unique way. I honestly think this is going to be the best selling album Projekt has ever released. Sam's nose for stellar talent has only grown more sharp...

    by AREA
    One Desire One Desire
There are certain artists that seem to come from left field into your universe like a lightning bolt... I can't believe it took over 30 years for "Area" and "The Moon Seven Times" to find me... A really interesting and original blend of ethereal, dream-pop and alternative-rock with subtle gothic-rock undertones. "One Desire" sounds like it could be the theme song for a 1980s cult film. They manage to be mysterious and captivating while at the same time unpretentious.
  8. Acoustic Unseen
    by Steve Gunn
  9. Pretty Boy
    by Kurt Vile
This is a beautifully stark yet hypnotic track by Gunn and Vile. I've been a fan of Gunn for a while but not Vile. That's been changing this week tho... Vile's work has been growing on me big time.
  10. Fear Is Like A Forest
by courtney barnett and kurt vile
This is a deeply beautiful song... Wonderfully captivating musical dynamics and vocal phrasing that dovetail in beautiful melody. In a very real way they're singing about the ultimate secret to life...
  11. Elegant Elephant
    by Broadcast
The memory of Trish Keenan lives on anew in this beautiful previously unreleased rarity...
  12. Stahlwerk
    by Lebanon Hanover
All I can say is there's a raw, stark, desperate, sadness that is strangely captivating, despite (or somehow maybe because of) their poor musicianship...
  13. Gallowdance
    by Lebanon Hanover
On the face of it Lebanon Hanover is totally cheesy gothic dribble... But there is something about them and their music that shines through that makes it good--I can't quite put my finger on it!?! All I can say is there's a raw, stark, desperate, sadness that is strangely captivating, despite (or somehow maybe because of) their poor musicianship... And this album cover is just sublime...
  14. Staring at the Henry Moore
    by Aldous Harding
  15. Fever
    by Aldous Harding
I didn't warm up to all the songs on "Warm Chris" but Fever and a few others are tops. Love Hannah's vocal phrasing on Fever it melds so dynamically with the melody. And this one is somewhat uptempo! Hannah wrote a happy song for Aldous to sing!
  16. Lawn
    by Aldous Harding
  17. Leathery Whip
    by Aldous Harding
Hannah keeps her whip quite leathery and sharp--this one cracks hard like her dry wit... LOVE IT!

Sorry For Your Loss Sorry For Your Loss
A very interesting trip into the mind behind the production of some of 4AD's most captivating albums... PJ Harvey and John kick some alternative rock ass on Sorry For Your Loss...
  20. Labyrinth

    Admiration Admiration
Who do you admire? And when you look in the mirror what quality of character is reflected back at you? And who is the witness of that quality? Are you the quality or the witness? And how does that quality change when you realize your absolute identity is beyond all qualities? I saw this woman open up for Beth Orton and have been blown away ever since! "Admiration" is my favorite so far...
