sometimes, you want to listen to music. Other times you want music to happen TO you.

    This is the latter
  3. Rainbow Underground Vol. 1
by Women and Enby People of Electronic Music
a combination of nostalgic C-64 sounds and VERY well considering samples. All mixed with with effortlessly catchy and up beat melodies.

    A good package.

    Wonders Wonders
This is a demonstration of what happens when electronic music grows up. Despite, or maybe because of it's sense of "looking in the rear view mirror" from time to time... There is enough variety within tracks to highlight that this is a very current album...

It can be enjoyed as singles - but it is better to be appreciated as a whole.

  11. The Harrow & The Harvest
    by Gillian Welch
The Way It Goes The Way It Goes
Sometimes, despite all of the technology at our fingertips, used with (sometimes saddening) abandon to get our attention...
The elegant, emotional honesty of guitars and vocals putting out some seriously good narratives, that often reflect where we're at better than a roomful of audio hardware, is a refreshing antidote....

    Highly recommended.

a smart, concise lyrical content and relaxed acoustic tones make this a refreshing change to the ears.
A wonderful, emotionally brittle set of songs present themselves to you...
Worth the time it takes to listen.

Since You Went Away Since You Went Away
this is how you do an album that could easily fall into cosy, simplistic projections of a "chill vibe", devoid of anything approaching substance... and still have a listening experience that feels complete and leaves you wanting more.
True, there is a "chill vibe" that pervades... However, that pervasiveness never becomes invasiveness. Which it could so easily do. It takes you places, without pulling you around.

    Let it take you.
    The journey is worth it.

Alchemy. Plain and simple. I've written (and written again and again) this review. However, alchemy is truly what it is. Turing simple tones into a journey that is both emotional and metaphorical, without stooping to thin cliché is an art in its own right.
This album is part dream, part narrative and in some parts nightmare...with a subliminal beauty that resides all the way through. It pulls the trick of being able to allow your mind to detach - without falling into contented shoe gazing.

  18. Gesundbrunnen Ghosts
    by Yair Etziony
Otherworldly, ethereal, minimal, brittle and sparse are all words that could help to define this track - but in all honesty, those clichés have little place here.

There is a sense of the organic here - that is sometimes almost uncomfortable...
Like viewing a painting by Francis Bacon for the first time.

It touches nerves, but you can't possibly stop until the last note.

That kind of Magician's trick is one many wished they could do.
  19. Last Hour Story
    by Julia Kent
Somewhere, in an alternative reality... is a Nordic TV series of cinematic brilliance, complex characters and brilliant, unforeseeable plot twists tied together with a compelling narrative that has you hooked for every single episode.

This is the soundtrack that series is missing.
  20. Abyss
    by CHELSEA WOLFE
This is not a work you will merrily skip through to find a three chord effort, that will put your brain in neutral and go about you day.
It's the musical equivalent of the forces of nature during a storm...

after these many tempests have washed over you - the space to see clearly and breath fresh air cleansed by the storm.

It is this juxtaposition of opposites that make this album worthwhile.
It isn't for everyone, it refuses to be a box ticking exercise. That's why it so good.
