A longtime fan, I really tried to like this, but I can't. The songs are sonically clear and sometimes enjoyably anthemic. I appreciate Gabriel's odd Bon Iver-inflected moments (as in the title track chorus).
But the lyrics here are blander than I thought possible, a string of cliches and banal observations. When your elder says, "Live and let live," "Justice is blind," "Love can heal," and "an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind," you nod respectfully. But compelling music it does not make.
