    Nature's Way Nature's Way
The cover combines the bright energy of the original, vocals from Oystein Greni (who I had never heard of before), with the brilliant playing of Rodrigo y Gabriela. I actually think I prefer this version to the classic original!

Go Try (White Hinterland remix) Go Try (White Hinterland remix)
I love the way each song has been reimagined in ways that make them completely distinct from, yet at least as good if not better, than the original versions.

Not only are the lyrics and evocative, but the music and arrangement for each song provide a distinct soundscape, all of which reveal additional nuances and pleasures with each listen.

I love how the song builds upon the sonic experiments from the Magnolia - Remix EP in ways that make me even more eager to hear their new album.
  18. The Deep End
    by Jamila Ford
    00:00/00:00
    Silencio Silencio
My co-favorite is "Gentle Rain", but I decided that the sole original tune deserved special attention. I love Ford's understated vocals (always in command without ever being too "showy").

  20. Somewhere Else
    by Lydia Loveless
    00:00/00:00
Really Wanna See You Really Wanna See You
Loveless' songwriting is even stronger than she showed on her debut album. In addition, the songs are tighter and more polished without sacrificing the edge she showed on that debut album.
  21. Indestructible Machine
    by Lydia Loveless
    00:00/00:00
    Steve Earle Steve Earle
The songs are uniformly excellent, but with tighter arrangements than on her debut album. Her lyrics are more polished yet still brutally honest. The entire album bears repeated, repeated listening.
  22. I Built This Heart
    by Della Mae
    00:00/00:00
    Sweet Verona Sweet Verona
This uniformly excellent debut album reveals Della Mae as a tight, polished, fully-formed bluegrass ensemble. The highlights are too many to mention, though I did pick "Sweet Verona" as my favorite song because of the fabulous harmony vocals.

  29. The Miraculous
    by Anna von Hausswolff
    00:00/00:00
    Discovery Discovery
This is my first exposure to Anna on Hausswolff's music. Her new album is parts haunting, cinematic, theatrical, and ambient. I cannot wait to hear the rest of her catalogue.
  30. THISCLOSE
    by Janet Feder
    00:00/00:00
You As Part Of A Whole You As Part Of A Whole
I have no idea how Janet Feder can take so many disparate sounds and create such beautiful, gripping music, but I am oh-so-glad that she did. I can't wait to hear what new sounds I will discover when I listen to this album again on something more sophisticated than my cell phone.
  31. Pray For Rain
    by Marty O'Reilly
    00:00/00:00
Alone At The Table Alone At The Table
An amazing mix of blues, folk, country, bluegrass, John Fahey-like guitar, and other sounds I haven't identified yet. "Alone At The Table" is my current favorite -- at least until I hear the album again (for what will be the 7th time since I first heard about this band on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday). Am I ever glad I woke up early to pick up breakfast at Hardees!
