    上品さと狂気が混ざった音は、どんな音なのだろう？正直、Helena Delandの飛躍に驚きを隠せない。約2年ぶりの作品にしてデビュー・フルアルバムは、愛とか夢とかそういうものじゃなくて「自己考察」や「他人(または男性)から見た自分」「ジェンダー」を描いた作品。肖像画のようなジャケットは、まさしく自分自身を写す鏡。これまでは、シンプルなフォークサウンド、そしてインディーポップさが際立つSSWというくくりにいたが、今作で一気に飛躍した。クラシックなフォークサウンドに畳み掛けるようなビートが真新しい「Someone New」。インディーフォーク・シーンでのとても大きな意味のある作品になると断言できる。

    Men I Trustといえば、ツアーしまくっているライブバンドっていうイメージなんだけど、COVID-19によりそれもできなくなって、きっとバンドでも様々な道を模索したと考えられる。そう、彼らの答えは「レコードを出すこと。」

    アットホーム感だけでは表現できない空気感、グルーヴがじわじわと伝わってくる。今、この時に手にすることが出来て本当によかった。

    これぞドリームポップ、というような淡くてポップな印象だった前作『Wild Notion』のアートワークとは真逆な、不気味ささえ感じるピエロのジャケット。全体的に黒でまとめられていて、非常にシック。

    紅一点ヴォーカルSophiaの歌声は、楽曲がどんなテイストのものでも際立つ。暗い曲でも、とびきりに明るい曲でも。最初のトラック「Night Train」では憂いに満ちた曲。どこにいくのか分からない夜行列車に乗っている感じがする。不安と希望が入り乱れるような。

    しかし、曲を聴き進めていってレコードを裏返しB面を聴き始めると清々しい「Fortune Teller」のトラックが始まる。シューゲイザーをベースとしたサウンドに、まるで霧が晴れたかのようなバンドサウンドに心が躍る。

    このレコードを聴いている間は、なんだか自分が"人生という列車"に乗っている気がする。本作はストーリー性もあって、前作『Wild Notion』を聴いているだけでは知りえなかった、バンドの魅力をまたひとつ知ることができた。
