Although Carand’s inspiration was drawn from Angel Lake, this album calls to mind a very different geography of the Southwest: Canyon de Chelly in Navajo Country, northeastern Arizona. Specifically it reminds me of lying on my belly on the edge of an overlook high above the canyon with the vast silence of the canyon below, the silence of mountains rising in the distance, and a hawk riding the thermals rising from the canyon, hovering just at eye level.
