    Shark Smile Shark Smile
"Mary"'s vocal rythm first got me, as I tentatively gave this record a listen. Next it was "mythological beauty", then "pretty things", "shark smile"… One song at a time this album is winning me over and one song at a time, "Big Thief" is becoming one of the precious discoveries of '17 to me.

This record must have been written to make love and shed tears to. A fabulous find.

    by Sufjan Stevens
    00:00/00:00
From The Mouth Of Gabriel From The Mouth Of Gabriel
Considering how much I come back to this EP, i wanted to leave a comment. I don't know what to say though. On long bicycle rides through the countryside, "from the mouth of Gabriel" is my sermon, on hungover sundays "The Owl …" is my ether, on rainy afternoons "heirloom" is my sunshine and in longing, "djohariah" has been my mantra. Sufjan, you beautiful boy.
  16. The National
    by The National
    00:00/00:00
    American Mary American Mary
Most people coming to the National now, probably see stadium-filling band, with poignant lyrics and dense instrumental arrangements. I love that National as much(probably more than)as the next guy. What I love most about this, homonymous release, is that it also offer's a glimpse into the National as a band playing a small pub concert. With good songwriting, moving lyrics and easily tourable instrumentation. A valuable insight into the early days of my all-time favorite band.
  17. Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers
    by The National
    00:00/00:00
    Cardinal Song Cardinal Song
As a huge National fan, every album, in it's own way, is my favorite. If I had to say why this one, it would have to be the overall atmosphere. Though it contains some stellar songs in their own right(Cardinal song, Lucky you), this album feels very together touching on recurring themes of love, disillusion, faithfulness, honesty. There is a lot to be discovered when diving into the lyrics. Also: This must be the single greatest album-title ever.
  18. Cherry Tree EP
    by The National
    00:00/00:00
    About Today About Today
It's difficult to say, what the best song on this recording is. I would have said "All the Wine", however that song is really part of the album "Alligator". Though Cherry Tree is not as coherent as a release, as the National's albums, there are some marvelous songs on here. About today is an Opera, Murder me Rachel a drunk frenzy. Not what I would recommend to someone as a first point of contact with the band, but a nice collection of songs, complementing the National's long list of albums.
  19. Just EP
    by Bicep
    00:00/00:00
    Just Just
My brother showed me "Just" as we were sitting in a car, driving through the roman night to a club. A perfect song, not only for that occasion.

wastes of time wastes of time
To me this is by far the best ED release on BC. I can't really put a finger on why, but I find myself coming back to these songs frequently. While feeling most coherent as an album, the lyrics, or should I say prophecies, on here are subtle but worth looking into and the overall presentation of the vocals is not as monotonous as on the other albums. Great instrumentation aswell. In a nutshell: I love it.
  22. I Want to Hide My Face & Die.
    by Acid Ghost
    00:00/00:00
Hide My Face Hide My Face
This album tells a story and the songs are mostly simple but touching. Some interesting samples(Alan Watts?) Great find and as far as albums go, my favourite Acid Ghost release.
  23. Come To Mexico
    by Totorro
    00:00/00:00
    Gérard Blast Gérard Blast
This is a great album! After having binge-listened to "Home Alone" I looked forward to this a lot. I was not disappointed. Departing from the "heavy" moments on the previous releases, to some extent, this album has many Interesting moments and feels like there is a certain development culminating in Gérard Blast and the homonymous song. Long story short: Did I like it/listen to it more than "Home Alone"? No. Would I recommend it? Yes!
  24. Hear You
    by toe
    00:00/00:00
    Song Silly Song Silly
Beautiful Math-rock with some unconventional musical ideas. Good to hear toe with vocals. Doubt it's possible to not like this. Except for "time goes" maybe. I always press "next" on that one.
  25. Another One
    by Mac DeMarco
    00:00/00:00
The Way You'd Love Her The Way You'd Love Her
There is definitely a development to be seen in Mac's Music and while not being my favourite release, this Album has some great songs. Feels less coherent than Mac's other releases. My perception may have been influenced by the fact, that on day one most tracks were already on the internet as pre-releases , so there wasn't so much the thrill of discovering the album as a novel, but merely as a compilation of familiar songs, with some fillers. Still a good album I like to come back to.
  26. Picture You Staring
    by TOPS
    00:00/00:00
Way To Be Loved Way To Be Loved
Having first discovered TOPS through my Québécois flat-mate, I immediately fell in love with their sound. Great rythms, gentle Vocals and tasteful use of guitar-riffs.

It is impressive how Vernon & Co manage to reinvent the Bon Iver sound with every Album, maintaining their originality and sublimity. Fabulous release. (Can't select it in the drop down, but favourite song: ___45___)
