The musicianship is amazing, again, and the production on this album is beautiful - it's worth listening to this on the highest fidelity headphones you can, to capture all the organic guitar sounds. It's definitely more heavily prog-rock and less death metal than "And As We Have Seen..." and so doesn't quite capture the sweet spot the previous album did, IMO, but it's still awfully good!

  8. For The Good of The Realm

Trees of Silver and Gold Trees of Silver and Gold
The cover art had me expecting some pretentious folk-power metal; instead, this is great melodic black/death metal with elements of prog and folk peppered in. FFO Bela'kor, Wiegedood, Krigsgrav. Some top notch song writing makes it easy to listen to this repeatedly. Choosing a favourite song is hard...
  9. In Roundness
    by Mountain Of Misery
Some great stoner rock with post-rock vibes and good melodic hooks - I particularly love the dreamy quality of the vocal delivery which makes this stand out from most other stoner rock records.

    Giants Giants
Opening track "Giants" is what I imagine Pro-Pain would have sounded like if they made death metal. Enormously fun to listen to this grooving slab of moshpit-inducing heaviness.
  13. Visions
    by Nierty
Despite the description, this is very definitely atmospheric, melodic black metal with gothic elements - not blackened death at all. A very well executed and emotional album. Wish the lyrics were available though...
  14. Blackbraid II

  15. Arcane Paths To Resurrection
    by DECIPHER
Lost In Obscurity Lost In Obscurity
A great black metal release, comfortably straddling a sound somewhere between the old and new, like a mix of their compatriots, Acrimonious, and Cascadian bands like UADA.
  16. Further From The Distant Sun
    by All My Thorns
Gets better with every listen, gothic rock that verges into metal territory on occasion; some great guitar hooks and superb dynamics between energy and atmosphere, between sadness and bitter anger. Great!
  17. Grátr
    by Helrunar
All of Helrunar's trademarks are on display in this early album, but with an extra injection of wild, untamed ferocity!
  18. I.X.X.I.
    by VOTOV
This is a crushing slab of well-produced, old-school death metal with plenty of groove and rhythmic shifts, as well as some great vocals drawn straight from the deepest chasms.
  19. Triumvirát
    by Cult of Fire
  20. Hospodi

    Polunosznica Polunosznica
The integration of the choral vocals into the doomy black metal makes for a captivating, transcendental listening experience. Like a lot of black metal, difficult to choose a favourite track - the album really needs to be listened to in its entirety to be fully appreciated.
