a beautiful collection of tunes, from a prolific, easy-to-appreciate artist.
  8. flamenco trash
    by Nestter Donuts
At first it sounds like a chaotic fusion of Mediterranean sounds & sloppy rock & roll, but once you absorb it you see how tight it all is, and it becomes more difficult to isolate & categorize the elements. So that makes it just a unique, beautiful work of art, and there's no bad track on the whole masterpiece.
  9. Eparaka
    by Deltino Guerreiro
  10. Skin Suit
    by The Bobby Lees
I love this band, and the album is growing on me. You can definitely hear Jon Spencer all over the place, so if you like the Blues Explosion, it's a no-brainer.
  11. The Lion's Roar
    by First Aid Kit
The Lion's Roar The Lion's Roar
Why do I love this album? Because in the first beautifully metered tune, they squeeze too many syllables into the lyrics and somehow you can't imagine it sung any differently.
  12. Prism
    by Say She She
When you see them onstage, the three vocalists surrounded by their band embody so beautifully the tight sound of multiple messages within a relatively simple space. Harmonization as allegory.

"what the fuck did I just hear" and "ahhh that's lovely" all at once.

There's a tune here for every Sunday morning mood, in church, out of church, underneath the church, or just sitting home having a quiet war with God.

Sure it's good tunes, but let's be honest. I love this album because she's just so cool. A bona-fide genius couldn't ask for a better reason.

Danny Elfman gets to make soundtracks to every single Hollywood movie and this guy has to hawk his tunes for a dollar? Nothing against Elfman, he's got old-school weird bona-fides, but compare his composition styles with this album & see how arbitrary our metrics of genius can be.
  20. A Tribute To The Misfits
    by The Mofos
Some of these tunes clearly out-Danzig Danzig. I wouldn't even call them a "cover band" - they are more like, expert forgers.
