  1. SALTON SEA
    by Arthropod
Wow, this is quite different from Giant Squid but I'm all in for it! Incredible sound; as always there's an undeniable sensibility, and the return to some middle-eastern vibes (shout out to Neonate) is fantastic. Genuinely excited for more!
  2. Portraits
    by AODON
    Egon Egon
Filthy, tormented, yet utterly beautiful. This album proves once again that black metal can be pushed to new boundaries and crafted with tremedous musicality without ever losing its abrasive gusto. Definitely a top 5 contender for my 2023 album of the year.
  3. Sel de Pierre
    by Vous Autres
This release has achieved the impossible feat of becoming my favourite album of all time. I'm 35 years old, listen to countless genres of music, and yet at some point I had to admit this is in all likelyhood the most poignant, raw, and beautiful thing I've ever heard. It scratched an itch I never knew I had. Definitely a unique sound holding a unique place in my heart. Can't wait to hear what VOUS AUTRES releases next.
Favourite track: Nah. The whole goddamn thing or nothing.

In My Last Mourning... In My Last Mourning...
Akin to a sword cleaving your heart in two.
  5. Les Retranchements
    by Silhouette
L'Étreinte de la Chute L'Étreinte de la Chute
Amazing debut album highlighting once again how strong and innovative the French black metal scene is. The male and female vocals are especially interesting and well balanced, reminding of classic acts like uneXpect and the Cult of Luna + Julie Christmas collaboration. A captivating album showcasing a clear sensibility, yet moments of high tormented energy. Strong contender for my 2022 album of the year.
  6. Sunvher

Stored In The Ether Stored In The Ether
This project instantly joined the black/post-black/shoegaze monsters that are dear to my heart (Alcest, Les Discrets, Ellende, Ekove Efrits, etc). Incredibly poignant and cohesive, with a masterful handling of vocals, riffs, atmosphere, and compelling nuances. Can't wait to hear more!
  7. Climbing the colossus (remastered)
    by SUNNATA
    Orcan Orcan
One of those rare gems that are just so damn good you start believing providence itself had to work some magic to make you stumble upon them. This one slaps hard and expertly, creating a sludge sound so greasy and crude that it feels entirely larger than life. The remaster highlights all the intricacies of the psychedelic influences especially well, allowing the album's complexity to shine through without ever losing track of its absolute banger qualities. Instant buy.
  8. Coven
    by Orion, The Fallen
    The Nightworld The Nightworld
Really digging the hypnotic, dark, and heartfelt nature of these tracks. This slow melancholic doom almost feels like a long love ballad for the occult, yet never loses its coherent tone even when the tempo picks up. It's gonna be easy to listen to this again and again.
  9. Scarecrow
    by Scarecrow
    Madman Madman
This blend of oldschool heavy metal, juicy riffs, and classical elements masterfully coalesces into a harrowing journey that's as deliciously occult as it is cinematic. A rare case of high octane music with purposeful sensibility, crafted in an insanely coherent album. Instant buy; words cannot describe the excellence!
  10. I
    by CHILD
The Other Song The Other Song
Every release from this band is a pure aphrodisiac for the soul. The balance between rock, blues, stoner, and now jazz (!!) is simply astonishing. The Other Song alone is worth the price of the EP and is definitely the best thing I've heard so far this year. LONG LIVE CHILD
  11. Bonsoir shérif
    by Keith Kouna
    Marie Marie
Keith Kouna strikes again! Tous ses albums sont incroyables, mais celui-ci frappe fort! Achat obligatoire!
