  1. Asymmetric / Redux [Demo 2005]
    by art of simplicity
Big fan of AoS's work I'm glad I got my hands on the remastered demo with this beautiful redesigned cover. Demos are always interesting for the musical connoisseur, they give a glimpse of what the band can be, enhanced with a raw energy typical for these early releases. In this case what you get is solid prog rock/metal with gripping atmosphere and haunting violin passages.

Day of the Troll Day of the Troll
This is the first dungeon synth record I properly fell in love with after I discovered this genre by accident through Bandcamp. Being very new to dungeon synth I don't qualify to comment on the musical intricacies of the album but I know good music when I hear it, and this is it! Give it a spin.

Tót nóta (Slovakian Song) Tót nóta (Slovakian Song)
I originally knew Matthew's music from the metal scene, and was pleasantly surprised to find his latest release would be recordings of Bartok's 44 Duos. Playing a duet with oneself is very challenging. despite the miracles of modern recording. Musicians feel and "feed" and from each other's performance live but here Matthew managed to make it sound like he was two distinct and quite talented people! If you are fan of Bartok or early 20th century music give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

    Τέλος Τέλος
The sophomore full length of the Greek metallers, this is a step up from their promising debut. In just under 40', this album showcases six engaging tracks with diverse vocals ranging from low growls to power metal screams and everything in between, solid music compositions that travel between prog, avant-garde and doom with ease and well timed violin passages which remind you that this is not a typical metal record. Highly recommended.

    Vigil Vigil
I first bought this album years ago on CD but a few house moves and lost boxes since I'm glad this is available for purchase in bandcamp. The debut full-length of the aptly named Art of Simplicity is a great prog album with what you expect from the genre - non standard time signatures, interesting harmonies and expert musicianship and one think you don't : the prominent use of violin makes this a stand-out debut record. I've since got their second full-length and can't wait to give it a spin.

Le Carnaval des Animaux: XII (Fossiles) [Camille Saint-Saëns] Le Carnaval des Animaux: XII (Fossiles) [Camille Saint-Saëns]
The album is exactly what it says in the tin. The focus here are the string instruments in a collection of well known classical tracks expertly arranged and performed by Matthew. For music teachers, the addition of sheet music is the cherry on top the cake and a great education tool, especially for violin-piano accompaniments. I thoroughly enjoyed the release with the two Camille Saint-Saëns compositions standing out.
