When you imagine faboulous adventures inside When you imagine faboulous adventures inside
What strikes me the most is how effective these tunes are in creating a convincing mood with just a few elements. Soundtrack-like qualities and sonic choices which sound somewhat familiar might be the key. Vangelis and Jean Michelle Jarre discover lo-fi jazz during an acid trip.
  6. Canções Sem Palavras
    by Libero Dietrich
Terra dos Sons Terra dos Sons
Gentle melodies (Dietrich knows how to write memorable tunes!) and emotional improvisations over Brazilian rhythms and harmonies. A fresh and joyful listening experience.
  7. Anderson Quevedo Trio
    by Anderson Quevedo
    Afro Blue Afro Blue
Some of the tunes remind me of Joshua Redman's Elastic or maybe John Scofield's more stripped-down stuff ("A Go Go" and the like). At times, Quevedo's playing and writing makes me think of Seamus Blake - with a Brazilian twist, of course. The groovier tunes are well balanced with other more contemplative compositions, and the featured guests are a nice complement to the raw trio.

    Bebê Bebê
It's quite remarcable that Vitor Arantes and his fellow band-mates were in their early twenties when they recorded such a mature work. Intrincate compositions unfold naturally thanks to a well-rehearsed ensemble (their dynamics are spot-on!). This record deserves much more attention between contemporary piano lovers, Arantes is the Brazilian Shai Maestro!

Meus Pais Estão Bem feat. Filipe Nader Meus Pais Estão Bem feat. Filipe Nader
Genre-bending proposal that should appeal from jazz-heads to indie-rockers, even clubbers! It's an unconventional album with many unexpected approaches regarding instrumentation and form, but all songs have a strong and engaging film-like narrative that catches the listener. Highly recomended!
