A brilliant and beautiful distillation of this band's manifold strengths. Final two tracks are as good a closing couplet as I've heard in a long time. Can't pick either for favourite track - let's say it's both. Rest of the album is great too!
In the same year as Cardiacs' final album (so far), the first real tremors of their glorious musical furtherance-by-proxy began to emerge. The Monsoon Bassoon's album was merely very good; this was stupendous and its continued obscurity is a crime against art. The Fortnams aren't just Smith clones either; they have their own delirious folk-pop sensibilities and it's a privilege to be able to listen to their music.
