The whole atmosphere that you can breathe in the record gives you a mood of depression for the world where we live in and whatever is around it. The usage of saxophone, clarinet, flute and cello support the band in giving the toxic atmosphere. The only song that looks like a ballad is the last one (Worms in heaven) where the band proves that they can provide a good classic song, getting away from post-rock patterns.
  5. Goat (Remaster / Reissue)
    by The Jesus Lizard
  6. Pigs of the Roman Empire (Melvins/Lustmord)
    by Melvins
    Safety Third Safety Third
I remember that I loved this album when it came out. Now that I’m listening to it, it doesn’t hit me like it did 15 years ago but I’m just getting older, that’s the real problem. III is a slow march that brings you down to hell, the titletrack is a trip of 22 minutes where rock and electronic are perfectly mix. The Bloated Pope and Pink bat are the only song that aren’t instrumental. Safety Third is the best song of the album: pure Melvins style with electronic touch to make it even better.
  7. Ignorance
    by The Weather Station
    Separated Separated
Quote: Don’t come to me for distance

Nice album with polished arrangements and good music, I think that the best definition that I’ve found around is: art-pop.

The only weak point of this record is that the lyrics are not always so polished and refined as the music: I find them, sometimes, a bit naïve.

A part the well-known Robber, a special mention to Heart that I’ve really appreciated: despite no chorus is there, it has a good vibes and groove.
  8. Red Medicine
    by Fugazi
    Target Target
Quote: "I don't want to be defeated"

Most of the bands that in 20s play post-rock and/or post-punk, should pay copyrights to Fugazi. The album is, at least 25 years ahead of time, putting together a bunch of songs that are hard, aggressive, with no catchy-chorus (or no chorus at all). Even the lyrics are ahead of time, talking about depression (Feel, destroyed), music market (Target), capitalism masked by love song (Do you like me).
  9. Ants From Up There
    by Black Country, New Road
    Basketball Shoes Basketball Shoes
Quote: “But, for less than a moment / We'd share the same sky”

Second album from Black Country, New Road is something that you must listen. I only have few words to describe it but it won’t be enough. You can listen to Basketball shoes that is some kind of "medley" of the whole album but it is not enough. You need to listen the devastating and suffering voice in Bread song or the crescendo refrain of Snow globes. You need to listen to it. No excuse accepted.
  10. New Long Leg
    by Dry Cleaning
    Unsmart Lady Unsmart Lady
Quote: "Do everything and feel nothing"

I bought this album due to the fact that is considered one of the best album of 2021. For sure the music in it is good and worth the purchase. What left a bit of nasty taste is that after a while I found the record a bit repetitive, especially in the voice. The only song that sound a bit different from the others is the title track, where the singer sings for the only time in the whole record.
  11. Afrique Victime
    by Mdou Moctar
    Afrique Victime Afrique Victime
Mdou Moctar is a Tuareg guitarist that adapts the classical Tuareg guitar music to modern times. If you are a big fan of guitar music, you will love it because he creates a unique and exotic atmosphere in each song.
The easiest comparison that comes up in my mind is that Mdou Moctar is doing what Santana did: putting together guitar skills with ethnic music (for Santana was Latin music, for Mdou Moctar is Tuareg music).
  12. Projector
    by Geese
    Disco Disco
Indie rock is not my favorite style but this album hit me because of the dreamy atmosphere that the band created in the whole record: the band is able to provide a taste of different tunes like some funky/radio-catchy (Low era), alternative rock a-la At the Drive-In (Fantasies / Survival) or disco (Exploding house intro). They are moving up and down in different directions that do not affect, anyway the overall quality of the product,
  13. EMMANUELLE PARRENIN / DETLEF WEINRICH - Jours De Grève LP - [VERLP41]
by EMMANUELLE PARRENIN / DETLEF WEINRICH
When a French folk singer and music player, meets a German DJ, the result can be a total disaster or a grate album. Here we fall in the second case: this album (written during the strikes that happened in France in 2019, from where the title is taking inspiration), is a perfect mix of folk/classical instruments played on an electronic base providing an unexpected and great result. In my opinion one of the best and more original album produced in 2021.
  14. For the first time
    by Black Country, New Road
    Sunglasses Sunglasses
This album is one of the best albums produced in 2021. Only 6 songs (quite long songs) that balance minimal sounds with more complex ones: It sounds like Slint meet some gypsy band like Gogol Bordello (like in Opus). They even mention Slint in one the song Science fair. The overall feeling in the album is some kind of sickness that brings you down but that makes you react and not let the bad feelings and blue mood win.
  15. Red Summer
    by ONO
I Dream Of Sodomy I Dream Of Sodomy
I like this album, especially for the message that it brings that is really powerful and in line with what happened nowadays. The title and the whole album refers to the Black Lives Matter (red summer refers to the summer of 1919 where white supremacists committed a lot of homicide against black community in USA). The whole album speaks about this, with a lot of reference to historical events (e.g.: 20th August 1619 is the date when the first black slaves were deported in USA).
  16. Another Country
    by Dreamcrusher
Question: how can I like this amount of noises and enjoy listening to this album? Answer: you shouldn’t listen to it with your ears: I close my eyes and get dragged in this chaotic world where sounds seems to not collide but it is just an impression: on this record everything makes perfectly sense.
  17. Ultra Mono
    by IDLES
    Mr. Motivator Mr. Motivator
A lot of people mentioned, here on Instagram, this as one of the best album of 2020 and I cannot disagree. For me, that I was a big fun of punk music, to find that there are still band playing punk music still now with the right attitude and the right angry in the songs (yep, they call it nowadays post-punk, but it is punk in the end).
