  1. The Practice of Surrender
    by Orphan Ann
    Marching Men Marching Men
Although being late to the game, I find myself totally captivated by Orphan Ann's pitch-black and claustrophobic atmosphere. This album hits the perfect spot between ghostly ambiance and musicality and, weirdly enough, it reminds me of the short-lived dark ambient project Aghast from Norway, which I love! Good stuff!

An inimitable strain of swirling, cascading, spectral sonic (dis)harmony.

  8. Nemesis Divina
    by Satyricon
Nemesis Divina is the most cohesive and professional one of the first three Satyricon albums but still passionate and organic, capable of firing up emotions. A truly classic album!
  9. The Shadowthrone
    by Satyricon
The Shadowthrone stands somewhere in-between the debut and Nemesis Divina yet still waving a banner marking its own force and unique identity. The perfect balance of atmosphere and brutality.
  10. Dark Medieval Times
    by Satyricon
Dark Medieval Times has an undeniable raw charm to it but it nevertheless manages to capture a magic of bygone eras.

Demersal: Cognitive Dissonance Demersal: Cognitive Dissonance
One of my favourite albums ever. Great atmosphere and the concept, centered around the oceanic depth zones/states of mind, is fantastically executed. The songwriting reflects this in an amazing way; faster, brighter and lighter in the beginning and gradually getting darker, slower and heavier, taking you deeper and deeper into the sea and to the darkest corridors of the soul. Everything here is top notch!

  15. Untergang
    by Urfaust
    Leere Leere
Untergang finds Urfaust doing their thing - resigned, pessimistic, yet still massive. Quite a miserable and powerful ending to a band that never fails to capture the pure mysticism of a true ritual.

  18. Black Royal Spiritism - I.O Sino da Igreja
    by RUIM
Blasphemer's first solo album, a part of a trilogy, is possibly what could have followed after Wolf's Lair Abyss if he kept the same formula. A wicked album, full of great riffs, with great replay value for me.
