These seven songs have left me dismayed. Melancholy malevolence, palpable pain, the sounds of sadness, desolation, and barely subdued anger combine in ways oddly serene and beautiful. I spent the day with the record and the record will spend the rest of my days with me. I am in a state of unease, yet feel soothed and calm. The tracks themselves undulate and evolve subtly, as acts of seduction into a bleak finality. I think this is a work of tortured genius. Art as both release and revenge.
