Like the drug the song references, 'Soma Coma' is pure, saccharine-sweet synthesised euphoria. The catchy lyrics muse on the nature of chemical addiction, be it cocaine or dopamine. Definitely an addictive EP!
Kardashev keeps moving in new and unexpected directions, constantly evolving their sound to produce albums that are consistently strong from start to finish. I'm hoping for a full-length release in the near future.
It's paradoxical: this album is simultaneously both a tongue-in-cheek parody and a love-letter to a very particular kind of Jungle: the kind that plays in spas, private medical waiting rooms or when you're on hold with your credit card company. It's peddling the Boards of Canada retrofuturism nostalgia... and yet also so uniquely original, it could easily be on Good Looking Records.
