This album conjurs a fantastic sensation of 'space' when listening to it. Lingering notes, some lovely reverb-drenched pads and shimmering strings. An album to cherish.
I love the vocals that drift across opener, Shoulder to the Bat. An album of unothrodoxy that's strikes up sounds which are simultanously beautiful and brutal. Awesome album.
It takes Burial's trademark sound and ramps it up a notch and pushed through what sounds like a Marshall Amplifier. Quite raw on the ears but I do love it's more melodic moments when the drums fall back and give life to those synths. Transmute is awesome.
Parts of this album are breathtaking. The slow waltz sound on 'Deathless' (that drop at 2:28!), the lingering notes on 'Call' and the mechanical, warped warmth that envelops 'Falls'. A perfect soundtrack for walks in the rain.
Underneath its boombox beats, cassette-chopped riffs and meaty synth production lies a very melodic album that's sits somwhere between melancholy and menace. Quite brilliant.
