    The Unlocking The Unlocking
I dont usually go for this kind of acoustic-singer-songwriter music but sometimes voices slip through and feel so sincere that I can't ignore them. I love the lyrics and production sounds. Just makes it all the more real. Love his voice. Beautiful. My heart's in the sun...

I love this EP so much. I often play it when I am driving and often wish that I was driving to LA. I discovered them when Ben was blaring them out of his office. I had to stop. Go in and listen. Wow. Super cool and sexy band. I like to be inspired by music. The way the band weave the vocals over the music amazes me and excites me greatly. I can't wait to hear more of their work. Super exciting. We are so happy that they are doing a remix of our single Kiss Kill. LEGENDS.

This album I also discovered through Ben. He often blares music out of his office. This time he called me in and made me listen to this 'demo' release and told me the story about a girl working in a video shop and recording in the basement. Not only a great story but also amazingly inspired. You can hear all the work, the discovering of sounds and visions Ally was going for. I am a big Beth Orton fan and for me, Lady Lamb might well become a Beth Orton figure of our time. She is amazing.
  18. Melt Into The Sun
    by Candy Says
    00:00/00:00
This was one of the first songs that we recorded in our garage. We didn't have any drums so we just used any bits, from screws to bolts to bash and shake as percussion. This was the start of Candy Says. I like the simple realism of the pop sound.
  19. "Favourite Flavour"

    Favourite Flavour Favourite Flavour
This song was inspired by the sound of a band called The Fixers who are also from Oxford. They were one of the first bands in Oxford to make that dreamy Brooklyn sound. I was inspired by this. It was also the first song that I have written that has been played by Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6. Pretty cool.

Wish Little Fish Wish Little Fish
If I was American and making music in America with a group of friends, this is exactly what I would like my band to sound like. And i mean friends and not backing singers. This is what helps make the record sound so personal to the writer, a young dude called Tyler. The vocals are cool, easy sounding and the lyrics command that you listen without shouting at the listener or leaning on an emotionally blackmailing cry of despair. I like it. What can I say? Bloody impressive and beautiful.

Lyrically rich Abe's voice haunts the beautifully subtle melodies that move through songs like Beth Orton's long lost brother. Love this EP. Looking forward to hearing more.

Son of the dust Son of the dust
This is the work of one of my close friends and fellow band member Elisa. She is not only beautiful (just dropped that in) but incredibly talented. She often undersells herself but don't be fooled because once you hear this record, the work of both her and her partner in crime Arial, the songs, the arrangements, the sounds, musicianship, her voice, you will see that they are pretty much capable of anything. I especially love the chorus on Son of dust. Absolutely stunning.
  24. Kiss Kill
    by Candy Says

    Kiss Kill Kiss Kill
This track was more of an experiment than anything. We don't have much gear in our garage and so trying to record a real pop song with one SM57, the arm of a deck chair and a box of nails can be quite challenging. Luckily though we picked up a harmonium from a car boot sale for 30quid. We also bought a wacky autotune pedal from the internet and deliberately manned up the autotune. Irony and sincerity. Our friends Dark Furs and BCATG have remixed the track. Buy their music too. :-)

    Stutter Stutter
I first discovered She Keeps Bees when we supported them in my old band Little Fish. We were in Wales upstairs in a shitty pub and they were incredible. I loved the simplicity of their set up: drums and guitar, bam. Jessica's vocals are extraordinary, effortlessly oozing with cool, rich tones of life that articulate sincerity. You feel that she has lived what she is singing and I love that. They were selling their new record Dig On at the time. I bought it. I play it often.

I remember Jess performing this live at the show I saw and simply loved it. She had the whole crowd in the palm of her hands as she sang a capella. It was an intensely intimate moment that I won't forget. I often play the record when I just need to feel grounded. Life can often sweep us away and take us in directions we don't need to go in. These guys stay true to their vision, recording alone, buddies. I respect this and love its honesty, both in the sounds recorded and presentation. Thumbs up.

Laura. Laura. This is the work of an artist who works so bloody hard at what she does that you can do nothing else but respect her. For this new EP she has made videos for each song, sat down and learned the software, all by herself. Amazing. Incredible even. Most of the time she records by herself but it is great to hear some live tracks with a full blown sound. It opens up her art and finds a great new depth. Very punk and very different from the dream world of Butterflies.

Met this band when I was in a band called Little Fish. It is always very inspiring to see other women out there in the music scene turning their amps up to 11. Super talented band who are committed to the cause of rock 'n roll. I lost my faith but they carried on. Keep on rollin'.
