Kirby is a genius of ambience and sound.

In contrast to his work under the Caretaker name, this album feels incredibly uplifting.

The booming percussion and massive, oppressive soundscapes communicate the jaded anxiety of modernity, but not without a reason to hope. Glittering strings and synths come out of the fray.

It is the auditory equivalent of your Dad telling you to pick yourself up, and get back in the game.

This album evokes so much emotion. It is a profound experience from beginning to end, partly due to Kirby's skill in exploring a devastating mental illness.

At the same time, it transplants some of the beauty of a bygone era into one that feels so sterile by comparison.

But the music had to take the difficult route to get here. The meaning and elegance is preserved, but it has lost its shine.

All you'll want to do is get back there, even though you haven't been there before.
