Brendan Sloan is a sexy man and his music is also very sexy.
  2. From Outer Spheres... Death (Demo)
    by Temple of Abandonment
Big Doom energy that hits right where it should. Massive sound.

  4. Παραμαινομένη
    by Ὁπλίτης
    Παραδειγματιζομένη μουσική Παραδειγματιζομένη μουσική
Chaotic and batshit crazy bones, yet never comes across as if there isn't intent behind the weirdness of the music. It's all purposefully done and the performance and musicianship is quite masterfully done. Just insanely impressive for a one man project. Eager to hear what's next.
  5. Converging Ages (Remaster 2020)
    by INANNA
Beyond Time and Memory Beyond Time and Memory
Pretty essential listening in a progressive minded death metal form. This band has been around a while but seems to be making the rounds only recently. Which is a crime against humanity because holy fuckballs does this album not fuck around. Riffs for days backed up by a really ethereal and dark sound. Lovely fucking stuff. A must listen.
  6. 殞煞 二 Vengeful Spectre II
    by 殞煞 VENGEFUL SPECTRE
幽夢 Abyssal Nightmare 幽夢 Abyssal Nightmare
An easy way to get me to love an album is to throw some Doom oriented stuff into it. And Vengeful Spectre do that, which makes me love this album. Hell Yeah!!
  7. Foreverglade
    by Worm
Centuries Of Ooze Centuries Of Ooze
Foreverglade is obviously heavily inspired by dISEMBOWLMENT's masterpiece Transcendence Into the Peripheral. But Worm do plenty enough on their own to differentiate themselves from them Olde School homies. This stuff is Murky, Gross and very good. It's got a good clean sound to it, all the nasty riffs and inhuman vocals are very audible. Damn good stuff fo sho.
  8. The Enduring Spirit
    by Tomb Mold
The Enduring Spirit Of Calamity The Enduring Spirit Of Calamity
Tomb Mold's return is a much more proggy peice than the rest of their output and I think it helps really differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack. This thing is loaded to the brim with riffs. And them riffs be gucci.
  9. The Primordial
    by Molested Divinity
Epoch of Spiritual Consciousness Epoch of Spiritual Consciousness
Heavy, Techy, Slammy. All words that describe Molested Divinity, and they play this style to a tee. Really damn entertaining with great pacing and extremely brisk. At under half an hour as soon as this thing ends, I tend to run it back and get bludgeoned once again.
  10. Ontological Mysterium
    by Horrendous
Chrysopoeia (The Archaeology of Dawn) Chrysopoeia (The Archaeology of Dawn)
Horrendous are not horrendous. In fact, I'd say they're the complete opposite of the definition. Ontological Mysterium is quite a bit different from Idol, it's still largely progressive, yet really different. The pace is much quicker and very thrashy in sound. And Horrendous utilize that sound masterfully. Not sure if this quite surpasses Anareta as my favorite from these guys, but yeah, album is a fucking banger.
  11. Everything Is Fire
    by Ulcerate
    Drown Within Drown Within
It's highly regarded for a reason. Everything is Fire is a showcase of epic proportions. And anyone who is even slightly interested in extreme music needs to hear this thing. Masterpiece.
  12. Inevitable
    by NONE
    Rest Rest
Ice cold depressive black metal that really emphasizes the feeling and tone of pure sadness and despair. Few albums can convey what this album does and I love it. Never gets boring and easily ranks among the best albums released in 2023.
  13. The Eldritch Realm
    by Parius
    The Boundless The Boundless
    Dear Parius.

Please continue writing riffs. They're very good. Thank you.

  14. Alföld
    by Thy Catafalque
    Alföld Alföld
Tamás has once again crafted a gem of an album. Far more straightforward than basically everything else from this project, Alföld sees Thy Catafalque playing it straight for basically the first time. And damn bro. Yeah, these riffs are sick as hell. Tamás Katai is a lovely Hungarian man and I wish him the best always. Thank you for this sexy music <3
  15. The Amensal Rise
    by Omnerod
The Amensal Rise The Amensal Rise
A really interesting and truly original album that stands far above most within the sea of bland and vapid progressive metal released these days. Each track has tons of stunning moments that never feel forced or as if they're just showing off. The payoffs are immense and every time I spin this thing it gets better and better. One of the best things to release in 2023. Top tier, this band needs more exposure.
  16. Deathless
    by Hellish Form
    Transfigure Transfigure
Funeral Doom with a Sludge coating. Oh yeah, it slaps. One of the best albums of 2023 for sure.
  17. Future's Shadow Part 1: The Clandestine Gate
    by BELL WITCH
Obvious comparisons to Mirror Reaper are inevitable when discussing The Clandestine Gate, however I think this album sounds pretty great on its own merit. There's a lot less repetition to be found here, and while the atmosphere isn't as depressing or heavy, it makes up for that in memorability. Some sections on here are absolutely fantastic, as is the record. Big thumbs up from me.
  18. Close
    by Messa
If You Want Her To Be Taken If You Want Her To Be Taken
What a splendid album this is. Top tier female vocals that truly sell the album. If I had to describe this album in one word, it'd be this: Bussin.
  19. Waves~Stars
    by Vin de Mia Trix
    Stars Stars
Glorious Death/Doom with a large progressive flair, Vin De Mia Trix has quickly become a band I'll keeping a very close eye on for the foreseeable future. Waves~Stars has less of a Funeral Doom core as their prior LP Palimpsests, yet that doesn't make the music itself any less phenomenal. Also, mad respect to Drummer Ihor Babaiev for their effort in helping the citizens of Ukraine in a really difficult and scary situation. My hope is with the people of Ukraine and with Vin De Mia Trix.
  20. The Saberlight Chronicles
    by Fellowship
Oak And Ash Oak And Ash
This is one of the cheesiest albums I have ever heard. It's also unbelievably catchy and pretty damn good. I don't often listen to power metal due to my cheese tolerance being rather low, yet its apparent the cheese used here is some of that gourmet shit. Good riffs, good vocals, good album.
