In 1993, he studied traditional folk songs in Okinawa, and made his major debut in 1995, releasing more than 20 albums in Japan. He has been serving as the tourism ambassador of Amami Oshima. He composed the soundtrack of the film, “Still the Water,” directed by Naomi Kawase, which was officially selected in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
