Well met, Mr. Mexico. How does one book you to play outside of NC/VA? I would very much like to bask in a room full of molecules moved by Meric Clanson.
I love the combination of the snare-drum-head tight rhythm section and the ethereal voices floating across the top. Reminds me of the Komeda records of the 1990s.
This live record was my introduction to Deerhoof. I'm floored. I can't remember hearing a more pure expression of joy than the drumming on My Purple Past.
It's as much Dave Brubeck as it is Mötörhead. All the time signature shifts leave you unsettled and let the heaviness of the music work you over. It's silly on first listen, darker every time after. I love it.
Dig out the first record, listen to Cleo. Come back here and listen to Comes A Day. Doug pretty much traces the arc of life right there. Fill in the rest with decades of guitar wizardry. A+ record here.
