Revisiting Perc's excellent 2011 debut LP before his new one hits next week.

    by Styles Upon Styles
    00:00/00:00
Operation (Part 2) Operation (Part 2)
Great winter compilation from an adventurous label with an excellent track record. Cuts from Kloke, Clay Wilson, White Visitation, and Best Available Technology are standouts.
  18. Body Issues
    by Patricia
    00:00/00:00
    Josephine Josephine
Smokey, hiss-laden dance music in its most gorgeous form. An underrated gem of 2013.
  19. "Tulpa"
    by Perfume Advert
    00:00/00:00
    Sand Worm Sand Worm
Another perhaps overlooked gem from 2013. Deeply textural and nuanced dance music that hunkers down around 110 bpm.
  20. JAQKQUIL / ECTOPLASM
    by JAQKQUIL / ECTOPLASM
    00:00/00:00
OWL LOVERS UNITE OWL LOVERS UNITE
Great split from Detroit wunderkind Ice Cold Chrissy (a.k.a. Coyote Clean Up a.k.a. Jaqkquil) and Ectoplasm. A really nice collection of airy/spacey/unconventional beats.
  21. Ancestors
    by whitevisitation
    00:00/00:00
    Permanent Swing Permanent Swing
Some rather heady dance music from the SUS camp. Still, there is plenty of soul, groove, and even a little dub buried underneath, making this three-tracker very interesting.
  22. Nautically Inclined
    by Lumigraph
    00:00/00:00
    Dorsia Dorsia
The outer fringes of dance music have hardly sounded so invigorating as when Lumigraph is at the helm. The weirder this one gets, the harder it is to turn it off.
  23. Bending Brass
    by The Cyclist
    00:00/00:00
    Grayscale Grayscale
I totally missed this one when it first came out, but after spinning The Cyclist's LP for Leaving/Stones Throw a lot, I finally got around to giving this (his first record) a full listen. A nice assortment of rough-around-the-edges dance music to be heard on this one.
  24. Under EP
    by Placeholder
    00:00/00:00
    Feel Better Feel Better
"Feel Better" is just intoxicatingly ghostly, and the melodies on here are beautifully smart. Sadly slept on EP from a little-known producer out there in North Carolina.
  25. The Voice
    by Yalls
    00:00/00:00
    Dim Touch Dim Touch
Yalls is an essential part of the East Bay/Oakland production scene, and before his LP comes out in 2014, this EP is definitely worth a spin. Somehow he makes out-of-time and chopped-to-all-hell vocal snippets make total sense over pop-streaked hip-hop beats.
  26. Tenderly/Flow single
    by Disclosure
    00:00/00:00
    Tenderly Tenderly
My personal favorite Disclosure release. Nice melodies, smooth chords, and—the best part—no vocal collaborations anywhere in sight.
