Ponderous Sludge/Doom from the Portuguese speaking section of the Amazon. It's heavy, crushing, and single-minded. And surprisingly dark for a sludge release. The satanic Hispanics are at it again.

The song structures say Gorguts by way of Ion Dissonance. Guitar tone says Gojira by way of The Red Chord?! Interesting stuff, a big step up from their last album.

Apparition exist right at the interface Death and Doom. Turgid yet predatory, miserable yet arrogant. With an album name like 'Feel' I'm a bit let down by the complete lack of syrupy saxophone solos, but it's a strong package regardless.

Weirdo Prog/avant/death metal. Repeat listens are required to get the full benefit. Totally worth it, don't shortchange yourself.

All of the resin-soaked, contorted, weebly-wobbly weirdo energy I was expecting, but absent the prerequisite dirt. I was expecting more dirt.

I'm thumbing through the brochure now, it specifically mentions dirt as a selling point. I don't know how to assess this item without crust.

Holy shit. I literally hit +BUY+ like fifteen seconds into the featured track. Portal x Incantation vibes. Malicious filth.

Gnarled, contorted, murky, chaotic, worm vocals. Evenfall of the Apocalypse is checking all the boxes on my deathmetal checklist. Another stellar release from a stellar crew. Ascended Dead never dissapoint.

Captured! By Robots are really onto something here. No prissy human musicians with their pitiful physical limitations and their stupid emotional needs. No pathetic social maneuvering or regressive pack-bonding rituals. No outside relationships dividing attentions. Just the cold precision of the machine crushing your dumbass soul to powder.

Gonna have to automate that meatbag on vocals out of a job before the Singularity can be obtained, though. Never forget that flesh is weakness.

Sounds like Cthulhu going on a Benadryl and bath-salts fueled rampage through a Guitar Center while a bunch of the fish people from Innsmouth gang bang in the background.

The guys from Ulthar sound more focused this time around, compared to the more meandering bits of Helionomicon (which is also awesome, check it out). And the album art... holy hell.

Blackened Deathgrind of the sproingy, otherworldly variety. Inevitability is everything but tasteful.

The album cover says "minimalist black metal" but what you're actually getting here is a competent Death Metal release with progressive leanings and an open, natural sounding production. The drum sound in particular is just *chef's kiss. Add in some super galaxy-brain lyrical themes and guttural puke vocals and you get this gem of a release.

I'm on a bit of a Melancholia kick recently. Was trawling their back catalog based on the strength of Book of Ruination and... damn. These guys really just don't miss. Every release fucking slays.

Man, the guitars on this album sound fucking HUGE! Add a competent rhythm section and some spooky synths and you got yourself a winner.

Despicable mid-tempo toilet metal. Like Six Feet Under if Chris Barnes had never been born and consequently they didn't suck camel dicks for every waking hour of their adult lives. Two thumbs up, very enjoy.

Claustrophobic anxiety metal from the deepest realms of crippling myopia.

I almost don't mind the drum machine.

Super gross. Like, imagine if the concept of 'failed potential' got forcibly impregnated by a slug composed entirely of tumors. Then multiply the resulting miscarriage by n, where n=your parent's crushing disappointment in you and your collected life choices.

That's the kind of soundscape we're working with here. Truly miasmal.
