  5. Snooze Fest
    by S.A. Bach
Wow. Has Sebastian ever released a song that wasn't incredible? Like, just straight from the veins, blood all over the place, brutally gorgeous every-single-time? I don't think so. Everything I've ever encountered from him has been magical and Snooze Fest is yet another ep that, should it not sell a million units, I shall be forced to question the taste of every human being and fear for the future. Do yourself a favor. Listen a few times and buy it for five friends.
  6. Middle Age Conversation EP
    by Stephan Cox
Your Childhood Hero (Is an Asshole) Your Childhood Hero (Is an Asshole)
Ha! Ha! This album is just outright hilarious. If you grew up in the 70's and 80's, this collection of songs will have special resonance. The overt references, musical and lyrical, are just pitch perfect. Coupled with observational humor that is spot-on and guffaw-worthy this is a definitely an ep that is a must-add to any party mix.
  7. A Hanky Full Of Chissum
    by Mike Schnee
Woompie Womp, The Wibble Woompie Womp, The Wibble
Choosing a favorite song on this album is like going into a pet store filled with adorable puppies and ranking them. Like, maybe, I can find a favorite. But, frankly, they're puppies and all adorable.

This album fills me with so much joy. It is hilarious, fun, joyful, ribald, subversive, and magical. It's like what I imagine R. Crumb would sound like if he made music and not art. Does that make sense?

It is brilliant. Just brilliant. Happy listening! Thank you, Chissum!
  8. My Morbid Imagination EP
    by John Brownell
    I Don't Need A Friend I Don't Need A Friend
John Brownell has quickly become one of my favorite artists. His music is catchy, immaculately produced, and saturated in clever, thoughtful, stirring imagery and lyrics. His music is like coming home after a long trip away. It is rooted in all the things that make music, for me, such a genuine pleasure. This ep is only four songs, but John makes every one count. Just brilliant! Give it a spin and then buy three copies for friends.
  9. Catapulting Stars
    by EZ Tiger
    Go! Go!
EZ Tiger's Catapulting Stars is a miracle of indie-rock magic. Every song is a gem. Every single one. They are, all of them, singable, danceable, and jump-aroundable! This is what you get when you take ferocious talent, skill that comes with years of dedication and musical polish, and season it with big hooks and indie-rock awesome. Just perfection!
  10. All My Almost Best
    by Mike Schnee
Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia
Choosing a favorite track is sorta like asking what's your favorite sentence in a beloved novel. It just doesn't provide the full picture. All My Almost Best is another absolutely brilliant release by Wormstew. And it is also a really wonderful introduction to the band if you don't know them. Of course, there's a song inspired by a Peckinpah movie! And of course the arrangements are gonna feature absurdly skilled friends adding brilliant performances. Do yourself a favor. Buy this ep!
  11. Whatever Happened to Todd? EP
    by Stephan Cox
Whatever Happened to Todd? (The Gen X Names Song) Whatever Happened to Todd? (The Gen X Names Song)
This three song ep by the absurdly percipient Stephan Cox is hilarious in a rollicking, singalong, slightly-tongue-in-cheek way. Choosing a favorite track was tough because each song has it's own special magic. Karen's Lament gives us an empathetic glimpse into a personality type that is so easy to find frustrating. But, I opted for the title track because, frankly, what DID happen to Todd? Like, really. Do yourself a favor. Buy this ep and put it on repeat.
  12. ALT-TAB (Demo Pack)
    by Littleton
Bummin' Me Out (Demo) Bummin' Me Out (Demo)
Alt-Tab is yet another brilliant collection of demos by an indie-rock band that reminds me why the guitar, bass, and drums combo has dominated rock and roll for over a half century. These four tracks are full of hooks, all-too-real lyrics, and just pure adrenalin and fire.

There's a raw vitality and earnest punk-rock aesthetic that gives these tracks, for me, a glow that feels visceral, powerful, and genuine. Hats off! This is a must buy!
  13. Let the Machines
by John Brownell and his Spare Parts
    This Machine This Machine
This album is just beyond good. Every track just sparkles. Drenched with hooks galore, lyrical inventiveness, and a panoply of feels. There are so many tracks that I adore, it was tough choosing a favorite. I went with This Machine because it just deeply resonates.

After reading an article in the Missoulan about John's songwriting process for this record, the whole album is even more remarkable. Such a thoughtful, impeccably produced, genuine pleasure to listen to.
  14. Lucky Fucker
    by S.A. Bach
    Striving Striving
Lucky Fucker by SA Bach is just 4 brilliant tunes back to back. All super-spare but S.A's vocals are powerful, his wordplay is genius, and his melodies are gorgeous. Highly highly recommend for people who dig amazing music. You know who you are. <3
  15. Ash
    by Eric Lea
    Exit Interview Exit Interview
Okay, okay, I very rarely select favorite tracks that are the first song on the album. And the single, Never Never Never is certainly a favorite. But, g'damn, if Eric didn't just nail the heartbreak and anticipatory fear of losing a beloved pet to euthanasia in this song. My eyes well with tears just thinking about it. Oh, this is Mike TV of Get Set Go, by the way. I love this album. Like, in a deep, soul-searing way.
  16. Stellar Engine
    by Steven Cogswell
It Ain't Funky Now It Ain't Funky Now
Steven Cogswell is a musical magician. Literally. He starts you at one location and then, magically, over the course of the track, he takes you to unimaginable places filled with musical oddities so compelling and so left of field as too leave, at least me, feeling a bit breathless. Pretty damn amazing. And he does this track over track like a madman! Like a magical madman that makes majestic, magnifcent, magnetic music.

  19. Look Out, Octosquid! Here Comes Crocogator! (Pointless Cryptids Vol.1)
    by Eric Lea
Possibly Probably Positively Kate Possibly Probably Positively Kate
Eric Lea is a masterclass of composition and songwriting that is so overbooked there's an interminable wait list. He does things lyrically, melodically, harmonically, arrangement-wise that even the most percipient, the most musically schooled might have to really dig into over repeated listens to fully understand or even get. This music is honest, clever, dark, silly, earnest and wry all bundled together a big ball of wonderful.
