Li Jianhong turns the guitar as a conduit to the otherworldly expressions thanks to the creative use of feedback and great amplification. Great live performance!
A MOON WILL RISE FROM MY DARKNESS (SUITE FOR GAZA)
by Jeff Gburek & Friends
Great to see Jeff Gburek's art and words dedicated to the meditation about the hatred and insensitive killings that are happening in Gaza. It's a call for peace and consciousness that's truly valid, as much as you're making real great steps towards incorporating spoken words into avant-garde music.
There's no mistake in joining Gburek and Kaufmann, two cosmic music minds, making the best with their own creativities. Curiously, my favorite track has the title similar to one particular Gilberto Gil's song...!
It's a very challenging work. Not only because it goes a step further on the sonic exploration of the prepared guitar, but specially because the composer-guitarist Jeff Gburek challenges the notion that the prepared guitar can't groove or have a rhythm. Gburek brings a physicality on prepared guitar playing that may bring an expertise and may sound intriguing as much as exciting for those who want not only the brain, but also the body being melt together.
Here's a journey to the center of your mind... but in a cosmic archeology of sounds that comes from very engaging musicians. One of the best meeting between violin and synthesizers you may find...!
Definetely, Eugene Chadbourne remains insightful, creative and weird with really solid experimental guitar playing sound and vocals that are as unique as its poetry. Either on guitar or on banjo, he is still baking an unique flavor of mojo!
The titles may be in Greek, but this guitar is universally appealing for those who still believe in the power of a pure electric guitar sound. And a really daring one!
