Vijay Gupta’s Bach is like a dream in which one inhabits the inventive world of J.S. Bach, unencumbered by any preconceived notions surrounding his violin works. I believe Bach would have loved these performances — for me, they are pure bliss. Framing the Bach with the fascinating contemporary works by Saariaho and Esmail further reveals Gupta’s profound creativity as a violinist and musician. I’m grateful to Vijay Gupta for opening my eyes to a whole new world of artistic possibility.
